Gorgeous Japy Freres French Napoleon III set of mantel clock and two candelabras.
In working condition. It is a 15-day silk suspension clock (the pendulum is fixed on a silk thread) and has excellently preserved *enamel dial with Arabic numerals. The glass over the dial is crystal faceted glass and is original, as are all parts of the clock.
The gong strikes the hours and the half hours.
The clock's mechanism doesn't need cleaning - it is well preserved and in perfect condition.
The clock has sophisticated ormolu (finely gilded bronze) decoration, which makes it (together with the candelabras) a classy eye - catching piece of art.
*In clock-making Japy Freres's enamel dials became the standard for clock manufacturers for 150 years in France and abroad.
In order to work accurately, the clock has to be perfectly levelled, and the accuracy is achieved by the up and down movement of the pendulum. The fine adjustment is made by the pin/ peg, situated above the numeral 12 of the dial.
For safety reasons, the clock will be shipped with the pendulum and the gong dismantled and it is highly recommendable that you have them fixed back on their positions by a professional, familiar with this type of antique clocks.
You will receive a spare candelabra cup, which should be used for calibrating the candles before placing them in the candelabras. It is not recommendable to force the candles in the candelabras before calibrating them, using the spare cup.
The set is in very good antique condition with small traces of use/ time.

Brief History
Frederic Japy (1749 - 1812) began his career as a watchmaker and is known as a pioneer in the industrialization in manufacturing in general (not only in clock-making). He was an imaginative inventor of all kinds of machines and radically changed the way clocks were produced. He introduced machines in clock-making (some of which invented by himself) in order to standardize the quality of production.
By founding a manufacturing plant, he made it possible that clock parts were assembled in about half the time it had taken previously. Production schedules began to be established by the plant owner and not by the local artisan, who previously used to manufacture the clock parts by hand and in their homes.
