Description

A lovely Japanese fabric for Shiba inu dog lovers, the Shiba Inu (柴犬) is the smallest of the six original and distinct spitz breeds of dog from Japan.

Several shiba ken dogs are in a traditional scenery in Japan with the mount Fuji and cherry or sakura blossom trees.

A small, agile dog that copes very well with mountainous terrain, the Shiba Inu was originally bred for hunting. It looks similar to and is often mistaken for other Japanese dog breeds like the Akita Inu or Hokkaido, but the Shiba Inu is a different breed with a distinct blood line, temperament and smaller size than other Japanese dog breeds.

Size: 90x35cm (35,5x13,5inch)

The tenugui started to grow in popularity from the Kamakura period (1192-1333 AD) and during the Edo period (1592-1868 AD), as cotton cultivation started in several parts of Japan , tenugui became an everyday necessary item. At this time the tenugui was regarded as a versatile daily product, but slowly it began to be regarded as an artistic item and contest were held to select winning designs.

These contests were called “Tenugui Awase” and contributed to the development of new dyeing techniques.
