Handspun Eastport Alpaca yarn. 70% Alpaca (Huacaya & Suri) / 30% Merino wool.

2.1 oz (58 gram skein) 132 yards of 2 ply yarn in "Snowy Natural".

DK weight - 3 Light

Eastport Alpaca is an ultra soft and perfect blend of 70/30 Alpaca fiber & Merino for strength, warmth and durability.
The fiber comes in a sliver which is a carded preparation which allows me to spin a lovely airy and soft woolen-spun yarn. Each skein of yarn is meticulously spun by hand in my home studio on my Louet S45 to a 2 ply yarn that is luscious and bouncy with spectacular drape.

This yarn is suitable for wearing next to the skin and is especially suitable for knitting for baby.

You can also order this yarn as a custom order in any weight and a choice of several hand dyed colours here. https://www.etsy.com/ca/listing/110085628/handspun-alpaca-yarn-choose-from-5

Eastport Alpaca is a beautiful, soft, sturdy and warm yarn. Eastport fiber is "home grown" with fiber coming from a collective of over 25 Americain family farms where the Alapca's are raised and the fiber harvested. The fiber collected is then pooled and sorted to create wonderful 70/30 Alpaca/Merino blend.

- Average gauge is approximately 21 -24 stitches per 4 inches
- on 3.75 - 4.5 mm or 5 - 7 US needle.
- 62 yards/ ounce
- total yards in this skein is 132.
- 11-12 Wraps per inch WP

I love clean and simple lines in a design and a classic traditional look. I believe it adds an elegance that cannot be acheived otherwise.
Although I adore colour and use it often I can also see great value in using the colours of our natural fibers as they appear in nature. I find this to be expecially true with handspun yarn. If the design is right the handspun yarn will really "sing" in your project as it will be the focus itself with it's lovely subtle variations and textures. The eye will not be distracted and confused by the multitude of colours often found in handspun yarns.

The fiber these marvelous and very beautiful animals provide for us has several unique characteristics. Alpaca fiber is warm and soft making it very comfortable to wear while the superior draping qualities help make a unique fashion statement.

Yarn spun from the Alpaca fiber is durable and light as well as soft and silky. It is even warmer than wool, repels water and when it does get wet, like wool, it is still thermal. Unlike wool, however, it is not prickly and is thus hypo allergic.
Originating in South America where they have been treasured for thousands of years Alpacas are now also commonly bred in countries such as USA, Australia and New Zealand.

The town of Eastport is a small, remote fishing village located at the most eastern point in the United States. With its long, cold winters, Eastport offers a space and the time for fireplaces and hot chocolate to work on those projects that will be special and enduring.

To my dismay this fiber is no longer available at my supplier but I do have a supply in my stash that should last for a while.

Please use a gently wool wash such as "Soak". The yarn or garment made from this yarn may be hand washed in lukewarm to cold water. Gently squeeze out excess moisture, roll in a towel to release more moisture and lay flat to dry away from direct heat and sun.
