Item details

Handmade

Materials

ammolite, sterling silver, cabochon

This doublet pendant is wrapped using thick 14 gauge sterling wire. In person a fine lining of silver pyrite is visible around the pool on the upper portion of the stone. Please convo me if you would like additional photo's. My doublets are not coated, they are buffed and polished. Color will not cloud or diminish over time.

Rare Alberta ammolite gemstone wrapped in solid sterling silver wire. Includes a black leather cord with a silver clasp. Each pendant also arrives in it's own fabric jewelry 'petal' pouch, handmade by a local artisan. I love these remarkable gems, and it is important to me that their new owners love their piece as well. I strive to offer the value that I would be looking for as a customer when purchasing ammolite.

* Shipping cost does not increase with each additional item added after the initial item.

*disclaimer: be mindful that I am an amateur wire wrapper, as I have not been doing it very long.

measurements (stone):
right side: 1 inch
bottom: 3/4 inch
left: 1 - 1/4 inch

Composites vs. free form..
Composites are taking three or more high quality ammolite chips and placing them together to create a tri colored 'aa' shell, which then is then attached to a matrix and capped with quartz. Like a mosaic as opposed to a naturally formed pattern. (not unlike a mosaic opal composite) These pieces are priced high and are as rare as obtaining three bright colors of ammolite chips and a good jeweler to carefully piece them together. This is why a free form tri colored shell (which the colors are naturally occurring together) is much more rare, and what consumers are often led to believe they are purchasing. I am not yet aware of a way to test for composites. If I were out to purchase a tri colored 'aa' piece of ammolite jewelry, I would examine how the colors intermingle with one another, or do the colors look artificially independent of one another..

Triplet = matrix (backing made of ammonite) + shell + quartz cap (three components / stacked layers each not naturally formed together. like a sandwich.)
Doublet = matrix + shell (two components/stacked layers, base was not naturally formed with shell, artificially attached.)
Natural = as-is naturally 100% formed
