Description

Stitched paper dress #50.2. 2018.

This Edwardian dress is made from lilac Japanese paper, overlaid with Japanese tissue and accented with silver; It is hand stitched on cold-pressed 100% cotton paper. It is based on an English dress from 1909, by Pickett of Saville Row, London, and is held by the Victoria & Albert Museum (accession T.33-1960). The dress was worn by a debutante, Miss Heather Firbank of Mayfair, London, likely during her first Society Season. Miss Firbank would have been a contemporary of Downton Abbey’s Lady Mary Crawley, and I can picture Lady Mary wearing a dress just like this one!

The dress is six inches tall, on 8x10 paper.

OTHER INFORMATION
❁ Made by hand, using papers carefully chosen from my extensive (and growing!) collection of Japanese, Italian, Korean, and Nepalese paper.

❁ Packaged in a clear sleeve, with a backing board to protect it from damage (and to make it that much easier to frame!)

❁ Each computer monitor displays colours a bit differently; if you're unsure about a colour and wondering if it's more blue-green or yellow-green, or orange-red vs. blue-red, just send me a message.

CUSTOM ORDERS
If there is a particular time period or style in the history of costume that you love, or you'd like a dress in a particular colour, let me know and I can create a custom pattern and dress for you.

If you see a paper you like but want it in one of my other designs (corsets, boots, handbags, beards & moustaches..) just let me know. If there is a particular colour you love, I can select a range of papers for you to choose from. Pick a paper, pick a design, and I'm happy to create something for you.

I don't accept cancellations

But please contact me if you have any problems with your order.

The following items can't be returned or exchanged

Because of the nature of these items, unless they arrive damaged or defective, I can't accept returns for:
  • Custom or personalised orders

Returns and exchange details

If the item arrives damaged, send me a picture and I will either refund the cost, or make a replacement piece. As each piece is handmade I can't guarantee that a replacement will be identical, but it will be made to the same high standard, and as close to the original as I can get it. I'll send a picture of the replacement piece for your approval prior to shipping.

If your purchase gets lost in the mail, the same refund or replacement policy applies. Although I don't, of course, expect a picture!

Similarly, if it turns out that the colour wasn't at all what you wanted (because every computer screen is different) let me know and we can discuss a refund or a replacement piece.

Shipping policies

Within North America I send the pieces by regular mail (that means Canada Post and USPS). Within Canada you can upgrade to registered mail for $9.00 (which is exactly what Canada Post charges).

Shipping overseas is a bit more expensive.

Customs Charges:
So far, I haven't had customs charge extra on any pieces that have been mailed internationally, but I can't guarantee that it won't happen. However, since I ship through the post office (and not a courier) the brokerage fees (what you pay to clear customs, in addition to the local tax charges that are the point of customs) should be minimal, if Customs does decide they really want those taxes from you!

The buyer is responsible for any import duties.
