The gods favour the brave, but do they let the brave be fools? Bloodgrue adventures forward proving that the gods can be blind, or careless. But maybe they have plans for Bloodgrue which the spirits are unaware of. He begins his ways in the first four episodes with 'Volume I: Fare Where?'

Here is an except from an episode of Dragoman Bloodgrue in this volume: Episode E004, 'Dairius and North Docks':

"The myth is that once Royalty angered the gods so fiercely, the gods as a whole decreed that this river should not have a name for one-thousand years. IF there should be a name officially put to the river within that one-thousand years, the kingdom will fall to the Shes from the north and from the south, never to rebuild. Mankind would forever be slaves to the Shes kingdoms, to be raised like cattle for their food stock for ever and ever. Now, no one wants that fate, so not even the peasants dare put a name to the river. Fortunately, our calendar started on year zero of that curse and the one thousand years is ending at the end of this year. So, next Spring 1, a name can be put to the river, if the count is correct. But last six-day, the Three Councils and Royal Council decreed that to be safe, they would not allow naming of the river for ten more years, to adjust for any slight miscounting. So, the river is simply the river in all its polluted shitty glory."
