A lovely and delicate brooch/pendant that appears to originate from the late 1800s!
This is a very unique piece that has been handmade of 14k gold and beautiful blue sapphires. This sizable brooch that also has a bail so it can be used as a pendant! is lightweight and has an openwork design. Little spheres on the basket, twisted wire around the piece, and hand etching on the leaves, gives this pretty piece an appealing texture. Twenty seven royal blue sapphires are scattered throughout the foliage and give the appearance of flowers.
This item is not marked but has been looked at by a local gemologist who verified it as 14k gold with genuine sapphires. The tube hinge clasp and handmade safety clasp would appear to date this between the late 1800s to early 1900s. Approximate retail replacement value is $3000 CAD.
Size: 2 1/16" long x 1 3/4" wide, 7.7 grams
Condition: Excellent. The gold is a slightly different color in the middle of the piece likely due to age and the handmade nature of this item.
