Description

Inspired by the ocean...

Do you have a favourite colour? I can make this wall coral sculpture in the colour of your choice.

The ocean and marine life are an endless source of inspiration.

One of the activities that I love to practice is snorkelling. The feeling of peace and immensity underwater close and surrounded by corals and fish touched my soul.

This coral sculpture is made using fused glass technique.

Please be aware that due to the handmade process, each product is uniquely different so you can expect a slight variation in size, glass tint and texture.

Makes a statement either on its own or when combined with other colours.

This fused glass coral sculpture is a great addition to any of your favourite places in your home.

Many pieces of glass were cut and assembled to produce this coral sculpture.

A kiln is used to make the glass molten and to join two or more pieces of glass. The glasses inside the kiln arrive to a temperature of about 1450 Fahrenheit. As glass heats up, it expands and when it cools down it contracts. The pace at which it expands can be measured. Distinct glass expands and contracts at various rates. When glass is heated, it softens and if more heat is applied, it begins to melt and flow. When heated further, they will melt together, flatten out, and become one solid piece of glass.

Once the first firing called full fused is finished I remove the fused piece, have a look at it and if I'm happy with it I then positioned the new strong piece of glass on top of a mold and placed back into the kiln and heated up to where they slump into the prepared shape. Generally this movement occurs around 1200 degrees Fahrenheit. Soon after the piece is removed from the kiln I sandblast it to give an opaque finishing which I love. Lots of work behind each piece!

Fused Glass technique is about glasses that have been heated in a kiln to the point where at least two separate pieces of glass are permanently joined as one without losing their individual color.
