Blackletter FPP Alphabet Quilt Pattern PDF download
Digital file type(s): 1 PDF
Blackletter is a foundation paper piecing quilt pattern inspired by classic lettering, given a modern twist with simple, clean lines. It includes 26 lowercase letter blocks and a pattern for a 47” x 46” baby quilt.
Each letter is about 4" x 9.5" (wider for some of the wider letters).
This pattern includes lowercase letters only, but you can buy it as a bundle with uppercase letters here:
Fabric requirements for the blocks:
- Background, 1 1/2 yards
- Foreground, 2/3 yard total scraps, or about 9 jelly roll strips. (For the pictured top I used 8 fat eighths, with fabric to spare.)
Fabric requirements for the baby quilt are all of the above, plus:
- Background, 1 1/4 yards
- Backing , 3 yards
- Binding, 3/8 of a yard
Difficulty level: intermediate or confident beginner
Format: Printable PDF
Number of pages: 32
The letters are scrap and jelly roll friendly. You can also use individual letters to make stockings, personalized quilts, or spell out your own words and messages!
Note that this pattern assumes that you are confident with foundation paper piecing (FPP) and do not include basic instructions for this technique. The patterns do include tips and guidance, and there are lots of free videos out there for FPP, so don't be intimidated!

very easy to understand pattern. I'm using the letters to make a banner for my next craft fair. love how it's coming out so far!
A beautifully designed pattern - easy to follow and so versatile. I made the baby quilt and definitely expect to get a lot of use from this alphabet for other projects in the future.
Exactly what I needed for twin baby quilts ♡♡
