It all started several years ago, when my youngest twin daughter, Koko, wanted to be a giraffe for Halloween- just happens to be my favorite holiday too, no surprise there right. I made her pants and a hoodie costume out of giraffe print polar fleece with a giraffe hood complete with a stubby mane going down her back, hoof bits on the end of her sleeves and leg cuffs, along with a removable tail. The removable tail was so my daughter could wear her giraffe suit for pajamas, which she did a lot. She wears her giraffe hoodie every chance she gets. After I finished Koko’s costume I realized I’d better come up with something more manageable so that she might let go of her prized costume long enough to be washed. The Giraffe Hat was born. I made myself a full zebra costume, with removable tail, but I don’t wear them for jammies. So, The Zebra Hat came soon after. Of course, the whole family got involved with Dove (Koko’s twin) wanting a Horse Hat, a Husky Hat for my son and a couple of Monster Hats due to my oldest daughter and my husband.
As designer in chief here at Tangle Wit Designs it is my delight and pleasure to continue innovating new designs for production. New designs undergo intense scrutiny from style savvy inspectors- i.e. my teenagers and their friends. An experienced team of examiners rigorously tests new design innovations and construction quality- i.e. Myself, my children and my young nieces and nephew. Evaluating these whimsical hats crates opportunities for amusing hilarity with the result that, a good time is had by all.
Besides polar fleece, which ranks #1 at this point, I also enjoy working with batik fabrics, fresh water pearls, water color, paper, wood, wire, and repurposing items. I also find joy in collecting dictionaries, thesauruses, English to any other language books, finials, mini cabinets with drawers, almost anything black & distressed, and tiny family mementoes which are displayed under a glass cloche (I’m not into constant and detailed dusting.) My favorite metal is tarnished silver.
I thoroughly love living in Colorado. It's so beautiful when it snows and marvelously green in the summer. We have the best weather! In the spring a ton of tulips, 350+ iris stalks, and a 5-foot (tall and wide) cosmos plant are among the myriad of flowers busting in my yard. I feel that a yard bursting with flowers signifies the home of a happy woman. I hope you enjoy perusing my shop. Have a great week!
