My name is Amy. I am married to a wonderful husband, and a mother to three amazing children who inspire and encourage me every day. When I get some free time, I love to sew. I also love cats - call me a "crazy cat lady". I wasn't always that way. I got my first kitten - Misty- in 2007. Ernest Hemingway couldn't have said it better, "One cat leads to another". During the blizzard in December of 2010 we took in a stray - Mindy- who gave birth to 5 kittens in February of 2011. We kept two - Spot and Chip. Four cats later and I'm in love.
I opened The Grateful Heart Shop in honor of my Dad who passed away from congestive heart failure. During his illness he spoke fondly of the doctors and nurses at St. Francis Hospital who cared for him. My Dad understood the power of gratitude – he always made a special effort to thank the doctors and nurses and to tell them how grateful he was for their expertise, support and, most of all, for the love that they had shown him. He had even given them some of my "Grateful Hearts".
Because I am so grateful to the doctors and nurses at St. Francis Hospital for their kindness to my Dad during his illness, I would like to donate 25% of the profits from all sales of grateful heart gift sets to Long Island’s St. Francis Hospital - Office of Development Center for Advanced Cardiac Therapeutics.
Because of my Dad, I am learning to practice gratitude every day. These hearts are a good way for me to remind myself to be grateful for everyone and everything in my life. I keep one of my "Grateful Hearts" on my nightstand to remind me to say " thank you" and feel gratitude for the events of the day, and the good things that will happen the following day. I find when you really feel gratitude, it changes your life.
Tell someone you are grateful for them and why. It will brighten their day, and yours, as well - it's almost magical. I carry some of these "Grateful Hearts" with me in my purse and give them out to anyone I feel grateful for. Throughout my daily life, I see people that are deserving of a special thank you - for example, the cashier at the grocery store who is always gracious and helpful to me. Handing her a "Grateful Heart" is a special and heartfelt way of saying "thank you." She feels my sincere gratitude, and, in turn, I feel hers, as well. Remember - "Among the things you can give and still keep are- your word, a smile, and a grateful heart."
