The idea for the Spiralling Star Fingerless Mittens came from an online knit-along which challenged participants to create something using the Star Stitch pattern. While swatching, I found a particular version of the Star Stitch that created a spiral effect, and these mittens were born from that!

These fingerless mittens are worked from the cuff-up in the round, with the Star Stitch pattern continuing onto the thumb gusset. The top cuff, bottom cuff, and thumb are edged with 1 by 1 ribbing. The yarn used for the sample is MadelineTosh Eyre Light, shown in the colourway “Mill Pond”, but any fingering-weight yarn should work up fine. If substituting yarns, be aware that the yarn chosen should be a yarn with a considerable amount of stretch. Please note that these these mittens are designed to be worn with no positive ease, and that the stitch pattern does not have a lot of stretch. They are specifically designed to be quite snug to the hand, especially around the thumb gusset. For best results, knit the size that is closest to or larger than your actual hand measurements. If in doubt, go up a size.

This pattern has written instructions, and the stitch pattern is both written and charted.

Please note that gauge is important for this pattern, given the snug fit of these mitts. Please check your gauge against a washed and blocked swatch to ensure the mittens are not too small.

FAQs

For a custom-designed knitwear piece, what can I expect?

I will contact you to discuss sizing, modifications, fiber choice and colour. My materials for commissions are ordered on demand, so there will be a delay before I can begin the creation process.

I will set a price quote based on our initial conversation once materials are chosen and the cost of materials is known, but I reserve the right to alter that price if changes are requested after the beginning of the creation process.

Payment is required either when I begin the creation process, or when the item is complete, depending on the nature of the item and the type of customization requested.
What is your studio space and do you have pets?

My studio space is also my home; and yes, I have two cats who share it with me. While all commissions are washed thoroughly before being sent, if you are sensitive to cat dander or fur, I cannot guarantee that your item will not have small traces of dander, despite my best efforts.
What is your studio space, and do you smoke in it?

My studio space is my home, and it is a smoke-free environment.
What patterns can I request custom orders based on?

You can request custom orders from any of my patterns (including patterns that are not available via my Etsy Store). My entire pattern portfolio is visible here: http://www.ravelry.com/designers/sarah-dawn.
If you are unhappy with your purchase, you can return it within 14 days of delivery. Items for return must be unworn and in good condition (no stains, obvious wear, or damage). The cost of return shipping is the responsibility of the customer. I suggest returning it via a delivery service that offers tracking, so that it is sure to be returned to me.

Note that Sale Items, Digital Downloads, Jewelry, Custom Orders, and Intimate Garments may not be returned.

Please contact me before sending an item for return.
Shipping is done through Canada Post, and all physical items are shipped with delivery verification.

Shipping Costs for jewelry is a flat-rate of $15 CAD within Canada and the US for any number of items. Shipping costs are included within the cost of knitted garments and accessories.

I do offer basic letter-mail shipping at a lesser cost for those items small enough. This option does not include tracking or delivery confirmation. The individual listings will note if that option is available.

If you wish rush shipping, contact me for an estimate before placing the order.
