| WELCOME TO 40 COTTAGE STREET |

Hello! My name is Kristen, and I am so happy you are here!

40 Cottage Street is not just a cute name for my shop - it is (or was) an actual place where I spent much of my childhood. I come from a very tight-knit family in a small mill town in southern Maine. My mom's parents lived just a 10-minute drive outside of town, and my dad’s parents lived just around the corner, at 40 Cottage Street. My dad's mother (known as "Mémère") was a thrifty, stylish trendsetter. Almost everything she wore, used, or decorated with was thrifted, yard-saled, bargain-shopped, or handmade by her. She rarely paid full price for anything, yet she was one of the most well-dressed, stylish women I have ever known.

Fast-forward to me as a young married mom, trying to furnish my own home on a budget. If thriftiness is a genetic trait, it was passed down to me by Mémère. I love all things vintage, antique, and handmade (another talent I inherited - I come from a long line of talented DIY-ers and sewists on both sides of the family). There is something so delightful about a unique space, with hand-picked or sentimental items that have a story to tell. And from this necessity to provide a cozy home on a budget, 40 Cottage Street was born.

All of the items you see in my shop are hand-picked or handmade. It is a joy and blessing to share them with you. My goal is to help you design a cozy, meaningful home, surrounded by things that spark joy and bring back (or even help create) memories you will cherish for years.
