¡Hola!
Soy Yvonne, propietaria, diseñadora y creadora única de A Modern Tale.
Me encanta crear desde que era pequeña. Me matriculé en la escuela de arte, pero la dejé al cabo de un año y medio, sobre todo porque elegí la carrera equivocada (¡la pintura al óleo no es lo mío, es un desastre!). Después, opté por el camino más seguro y convencional. Conseguí un trabajo de oficina y pasé muchos años criando a mis hijos y olvidando mi lado creativo. Para mi cuadragésimo cumpleaños, me regalé un curso de dibujo y reavivé mi pasión por la creatividad. Desde entonces, he explorado todas las posibilidades y he disfrutado de cada una de ellas.
Comencé a aprender a hacer joyas de forma autodidacta hace unos 15 años. Estaba tan entusiasmada con la posibilidad de crear tantos estilos diferentes que mi trabajo carecía de enfoque y, por lo tanto, de alma. Con el paso de los años, he logrado centrar mi arte en aquello que me inspira y reducir los materiales que utilizo a aquellos que son compatibles con mis habilidades, mi temperamento y el estilo que quiero lograr.
Cuando abrí A Modern Tale en 2020, mi objetivo era diseñar hermosas joyas rústicas para quienes aman vivir con sencillez y libertad. La mayoría de mis piezas están hechas con arcilla de metal precioso (PMC), ya que considero que es la mejor manera de aplicar mis diseños y texturas únicas (más información sobre PMC a continuación*). A menudo combino el metal con piedras preciosas naturales o cuentas de vidrio vintage.
Me enorgullece crear cada pieza a mano y saber que mis clientes reciben una obra de arte de alta calidad. Si no cumple con mis estándares, no sale de mi taller. Retoco cada pieza hasta que estoy completamente satisfecha, hasta el último detalle, como el gancho para la oreja.
Me gusta pensar que mis creaciones aportan un poco de alegría al mundo. Me siento honrada cada vez que alguien elige comprar en mi tienda y estoy muy agradecida por su apoyo a mi pequeño negocio independiente.

*Acerca de la arcilla de metales preciosos (PMC):
Se trata de una arcilla compuesta de partículas de metal precioso finamente molidas, agua y un aglutinante orgánico. Se puede moldear, texturizar, repujar y manipular como cualquier otra arcilla. Tras el secado, la pieza se limpia y lija cuidadosamente, y luego se cuece en un horno, donde el agua y el aglutinante se evaporan y las partículas metálicas se fusionan en un proceso llamado sinterización.
La mayoría de mis piezas están hechas de plata de ley PMC, aunque últimamente he estado experimentando con arcilla de cobre, ¡y es posible que veas algunos de estos artículos en mi tienda en el futuro!

I'm Yvonne, sole owner, designer, and creator at A Modern Tale.
I have loved creating since I was a small child. I enrolled in art school, but dropped out after a year and a half, mostly due to having chosen the wrong major (oil painting isn't for me--so messy!). After that, I chose to follow the "safe" and expected route. I got an office job and spent many years raising children and allowing myself to forget the creative part of me. For my 40th birthday, I gave myself the gift of a simple drawing class and rekindled my relationship with creativity. Since then, I've been exploring all the paths and enjoying every one of them.
I began to teach myself jewelry making about 15 years ago. I was so excited about having the ability to make so many different styles of jewelry that my work really had no focus and therefore no soul. Over the ensuing years, I’ve been able to center my art around that which resonates with me and narrow down the media I use to those which are compatible with my skills and temperament and the style I want to achieve.
When I opened A Modern Tale in 2020, my goal was to design beautiful rustic jewelry for those who love to live simply and free. Most of my pieces are made with precious metal clay (PMC) as I find it is the best way to apply my own unique designs and textures (learn more about PMC below*). Often I will pair the metal with natural gemstones or vintage glass beads.
I take pride in creating each item by hand and knowing that my customers are getting a high quality piece of art. If it doesn’t meet my standards, it doesn’t leave my shop. I will rework a piece until I’m satisfied it’s the best it can be, right down to the final tweak of an ear wire.
I like to think that my creations are bringing a little joy out there in the world. I feel honored each and every time someone chooses to purchase from my shop and I'm so grateful for your support of my independent small business.

*About precious metal clay (PMC):
This is a clay made up of finely ground precious metal particles, water, and an organic binder. It can be shaped, textured, embossed, and manipulated like any other clay. After drying, the piece is carefully cleaned up and sanded, then fired in a kiln, where the water and binder burn off and the metal particles are fused together in a process called sintering.
Most of my pieces are made of sterling silver PMC, although I have lately been experimenting with copper clay, and you may see some of these items in my shop in the future!
