Short story: I'm a former chef from Luxembourg, worked in fine restaurants and sailboats around the world, decided to go back to university to get a Masters in Product Design in Denmark and now live in beautiful Kamloops, BC, Canada.
Long story: After a long time thinking about opening an ETSY shop, I've finally taken the steps to slow down my design consultant career and decide that I'll dedicate more of my time to family and my own design products. With each sale and support from my buyers and community, I'm getting a step closer to Chatwin becoming my full time job, designing and developing thoughtful products that populate the space between the kitchen and dining table. After culinary school and several years cooking mostly in European restaurants and on sailboats and getting to travel to over 95 countries, I went back to university and got a Masters degree in Product Design in Denmark, the land of good design. I started my own design consultancy along with an architect in Luxembourg working all over Europe and then opened an office in Vancouver, BC. After a few years of non-stop work, and eventually burning out, I decided to close shop, and go back to my two passion: Food and Design (well... maybe three: Food, Design and the Great Outdoors).
In 2012, I settled in beautiful Kamloops, BC, Canada to raise a family and continued my family traditions dating back many generations using skills of fishing and hunting, gathering and growing your own food. I'm a fly fisherman at heart, bow hunt seasonally and cook every meal, every day from scratch. At home, we eat what I catch, harvest, grow or hunt.
Food is shared love.
The logical next step was to merge my passions for food and thoughtfully designed products. The Crucial chef knife collection is my first own product, which took me three years to design and develop. In my small workshop each knife set comes to life, small batches at a time. Honestly, they're a pretty sweet product, gift and daily tool, and I'm proud to put my name on every single set that I ship out.
If you have any questions, please ask.
Happy Shopping, and bon appétit!
Philippe

5 out of 5 starsThis is a beautiful knife set. The knives are well balanced, carefully crafted, and well designed. I am very happy with this purchase. The seller was wonderful to deal with and I was so pleased to learn that we live in the same community. These knives are on display in my kitchen using the clever haning system/case that was included so we can access them easily and keep them securely stored at the same time.

5 out of 5 starsThese knives are absolutely amazing. The handles are beautiful both in design and quality. The blades are centred beautifully making it easy to use the knives. The carrying case is simple yet stunning. I got these for camping knives for our daughter. In her own words….not bloody likely …these are for every day.

Chatwin is my product line of Chateau de Wintrange of Luxembourg (est 1610). As a product designer and former chef, I took inspiration from many aspects of my life experiences and heritage when building the Chatwin brand. The name, Chatwin, centers around the family estate Chateau de Wintrange in the Moselle wine country, home of Riesling, Gewürztraminer, Pinot Blanc, Auxerrois and of course Crémant. This brand was built to reflect my personal love for all things that age beautifully, and to add a level of quality to daily tasks - like elevating cooking, hosting friends, and the dining experience as a whole.
I now live and work in beautiful Kamloops, BC in Canada, and hop back and forth between Luxembourg and Canada. Looking back on memories of life and growing up in Wintrange, it has always been a place of magnificent beauty and jubilant gatherings where friends and family along with the surrounding community shared their special moments. With our own gardens, orchards and a small former distillery, these gatherings were almost always centered around great food, which we grew or raised ourselves, and cherishing the entirety of the process from the moment a seed is planted, to harvesting it, preparing it and, enjoying the result of our hard work in the form of a delicious home cooked meal with friends and loved ones.
This focus on food preparation and my family's love and respect for things that are built to last and can be passed down through the generations, have played a major role in the story of the Chatwin philosophy.
