When doing bios, I always end up writing about myself in the third person and it just doesn't feel quite right, so my wife offered to interview me to mix it up a bit:

Pernille Goodbrand: What is your name?
Derek Goodbrand: Derek Goodbrand
PG: What is your occupation?
DG: I'm a plumber by trade
PG: How long have you been doing this type of work?
DG: I started as an apprentice plumber when I was 17, and worked for a commercial plumbing company for 13 years. I started working "creatively" with pipe in 2013.
PG: Why did you branch out? Isn't plumbing a pretty good gig?
DG: Sure, but I got a bit tired of being at the same types of sites, eating the same kind of sandwich every day, you know? I just needed to change things up and be a bit creative.
PG: So you quit your job?
DG: Yeah, and it was the right decision. I work way more now, but I love making my own schedule, making stuff, and hanging around with our shop dog.
PG: What it your favorite piece to make?
DG: The copper coat rack, no doubt!
PG: Why is that?
DG: It's by far my most challenging item to make - but also the most rewarding - it has to be just right to work.
PG: So the challenge part of the fun?
DG: For sure, it's not like I run around laughing all day, but I like to make something of quality that will last and last. A lot of people don't want another run-of-the mill piece. They want unique, custom, quality furniture, fixtures and design. They want functional, lasting pieces that fit their style and their home. I strive to make those pieces, and happy customers are my greatest accomplishment!

I take great pride in my work, and I strive to create unique and high quality products. All designs are my own, and I personally handcraft all items in my shop, which means that every item is made with the greatest care and attention.

I value every one of my customers and strive to provide superior customer service. My shop policies provide some general guidelines for transactions. Please read these shop policies before purchasing, and don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.

Returns and exchange details
Customers can return or exchange non-custom and non-personalized items within the time frame stated above. Customer pays return shipping.
If the item you receive has a defect, or you have trouble with assembly or installation, please contact me right away so we can troubleshoot and fix the issue.

I stand behind the quality of everything I make. If, after receiving an item, you're not satisfied, please contact me directly right away - I will do my very best to make you happy! Please note the "Additional Information" section below, which lists some things you should be aware of before purchasing my items.

If you item has been damaged in transit, please take photos of the damage as soon as possible, and send them to me using the Etsy convo feature so I can resolve the situation, and pursue a damage claim with the shipping service.
I changed my mind, can I cancel my order?
The majority of my items are made-to-order. If you change your mind after purchasing an item, please contact me within 24 hours

What if I no longer want my custom order?
Custom orders require full payment before construction commences. I'll let you know all details regarding the order, the projected completion and delivery time when the custom listing is set up. This way you know exactly what you can expect before approving and purchasing the order. If you change your mind after purchasing a custom order, please contact me within 24 hours of placing the custom order.
It's very important to me to have items arrive safely and in a timely matter. I do my very best to package efficiently to keep shipping costs as low as possible. Tracking and full insurance is always included with shipping.

Orders within Canada will be shipped with Canada Post (2-9 business days).

Orders to the United States are shipped using a shipping logistics service offering USPS and FedEx options:

➢ Smaller items ship with USPS (3-5 business days)
➢ Larger items ship with FedEx (approx. 5 business days)

Please note that orders over $800CAD going to the United States may be subject to an import brokerage fee in addition to your home state's taxes and duties. Customers are responsible for covering this cost.

Outside of North America?
I ship internationally! If you do not see a shipping quote for you country - contact me for a quote. Orders from outside of North America ship with USPS (usually 6-10 business days). Please note that the customer is responsible for all custom fees, importation taxes (VAT) that incur when importing goods to their home country.

I'm thinking of making a purchase, when can I expect my order to ship?
The timeframes for dispatching are listed under "Shipping & Policies" for each item. Please familiarize yourself with these timeframes before ordering. If you need an item for a specific date, please contact me prior to ordering, and I'll let you know if it's possible to rush the order (It often is!)

If you require express shipping, an extra fee will apply. Please contact me for a shipping quote.

I put in the wrong address, what should I do?
It happens! Please contact me right away, and I'll do my best to re-direct your order. However, it's the responsibility of the customer to provide an accurate shipping address at the time of purchase. I can't take responsibility if an item sent to the address given at the time of purchase cannot be delivered.
Additional policies and FAQs
I've been soldering for a long time, and I'm quite good (if I may say so), but due to the handmade nature of my pieces there may be small imperfections in the solder. I guarantee that there'll be no runs, "grapes", or sharp edges.

Copper will patina over time. This happens naturally if in contact with oils from hands, or if it's exposed to water or the elements. I consider this to be one of the charms of the material, however, if you prefer a polished finish, I'm happy to recommend methods of cleaning and preserving.

Unless specified otherwise I use new iron pipe for orders. Iron pipe varies slightly in colour, and sometimes has a rustic and rough look to it. However, the items you receive will always be meticulously cleaned and treated with rust-proofing.

Some (basic) assembly may be required for larger items. I'll provide instructions, and items will be easier to put together than any Ikea item - I promise. If you're having trouble with assembly or installation, please contact me. I'm here to help!
