A little about Diskreshen

Diskreshen is a wood and design shop located next to the Rocky Mountains in Okotoks, Alberta, Canada. Employing time honored traditions and craftsmanship, we take great pride in creating handmade functional art pieces for discerning consumers.

Each Diskreshen product is handmade to order in our Okotoks workshop. Nothing is outsourced overseas or made by a third party. A skilled craftsman creates each piece utilizing tried and true techniques and methods that have been used successfully by woodworkers for decades. It is because of this practice that we feel confident in offering a lifetime warranty against construction defects.

Diskreshen is unique in that each customer receives much more than just a product. They receive an experience to go along with that product. We pride ourselves in offering world class personalized customer service and a feature unique to the hand-crafted industry – our Virtual Workshop Visit.

Upon placing your order, you are promptly contacted with details on when your commission will begin. Once we begin your piece, you can expect to receive daily emails with pictures and commentary on your build so that you see it come to life before your eyes.

In a world of factory production, uniformity and instant gratification, Diskreshen diverges from the norm by offering quality before quantity, individuality over conformity and passion above all.

Each heirloom piece starts with a cut of wood, hand selected for greatest visual impact, worked into shape by a craftsman, guided by centuries of tradition.

Built for you.

Frequently asked questions
How do I care for my product?

Diskreshen wood products do not require any special care other than keeping them clean and dry. Clean with a water damp rag, ensuring to always avoid furniture polishes, dusting sprays or soap oils. For tougher cleaning, try a drop of detergent or a bit of vinegar.

If you should spill liquids on it, wipe dry as soon as possible with a dry, non-abrasive rag or paper towel.

Avoid exposing your products to extremes in temperature or humidity as this may cause the wood to warp and/or shrink/swell. Diskreshen wood products are not meant to be kept outdoors.

Why does the box I received look different from the one I viewed online?

Each stash box is made entirely from hardwood, and as no two pieces of wood are ever the same, there will naturally be variation in each box. The stash box you receive truly is one of a kind.

How are your products built?

We use 100% solid hardwood for all our pieces. Top, bottom, sides...all hardwood! You will not find any veneer, plywood or particle board in any Diskreshen product.

All joinery is done with glue and traditional joinery techniques like finger joints. No nails, screws, bolts...are used.

Will everyone know what I ordered when it arrives?

No, we're not called Diskreshen for nothing. You will receive your order in a nondescript cardboard box with no markings as to what is in it.

Do you do engraving?

Yes, I have the ability to do engraving, add monograms, logos and just about anything else to our products. Send me a message with your ideas and we'll make it happen!

What type of wood do you build with?

I love the natural beauty that wood presents and would use it all if I could. However there are certain species better suited to the type of woodworking that I do. When I’m sorting through the lumber pile, my prime considerations are visual appeal and workability, with a sexy looking piece of wood that is easily worked earning a ten.

That being said, I use Ash and Cherry for the majority of my builds. They are both readily available, very workable and both present their own unique beauty.

For custom builds, I have used Black Walnut, Shedua, Iroko, Sapele, Zebrawood and Maple.

If you’ve got some wood in mind and would like to see what can be done with it, feel free to contact me for more information.
