Tenho que agradecer aos meus pais pelo meu interesse no feito à mão e pela recuperada. Os agricultores das pradarias canadenses precisam de um alto grau de auto-confiança. Meus pais construíram nossa casa, móveis e equipamentos agrícolas; costurado e tricô e reparado; pintado e reparado; e jardinagem e preservada.
Mas eu era atraído pela arte e pelo teatro e pelas luzes da cidade, e passei uma carreira trabalhando no departamento governamental que apoia as indústrias artísticas, patrimoniais e criativas. Fora do trabalho, criei uma família, me voluntariei na minha comunidade, continuei as tradições familiares – jardinagem, restauração de casas antigas, costura e artesanato de agulhas – e adicionei dabbling em cerâmica e vidro. Recentemente aposentado, resmei-me para a cerâmica com uma nova paixão.
I make porcelain and stoneware home décor, jewelry and buttons that are influenced by textiles and the needle arts (knitting, crochet , tatting, lacemaking, embroidery and others).
I have my parents to thank for my interest in the hand-made and the reclaimed. Farmers on the Canadian prairies need a high degree of self-reliance. My parents built our home, furnishings and farm equipment; sewed and knit and mended; painted and repaired; and gardened and preserved.
But I was attracted to art and theatre and the city lights, and spent a career working in the government department that supports arts, heritage and creative industries. Outside of work, I raised a family, volunteered in my community, continued the family traditions – gardening, old house restoration, sewing and needle craft-- and added dabbling in ceramics and glass. Recently retired, I have turned to ceramics with a new passion.
