My First Shop Suitsmi opened in 1986 in Portland Maine in a small warehouse on Pleasant Street, selling vintage clothing and trifles. Later Suitsmi evolved into a Costume Design Company in the early 1990, carrying 700 custom made costumes in a broad range of eras.

For 25 years we supplied costumes to major film productions, Dance Companies, Theater Productions, Ice Shows, Rock Bands, costume events and Vintage collectors.

In the early years Suitsmi did design work for the PPAC and Steven Goldbass dance performances, and custom designed costumes for a madrigal dinners given by the University of Maine. Each year Suitsmi partook in an exciting and creative local designers fashion show, Preta Portland, showing original designs made on site at Suitsmi.

When Suitsmi closed its doors in 2006, a few years later Castellan Treasures was formed. We have a costume photo archive and Preta Portland fashion show photos on my face book page @ https://www.facebook.com/WaterDragon13/photos_albums where you can enjoy seeing our past creations !

I purchased this WS George teapot to replace a family heirloom. I was very pleased to find it! There are 2 spots where the gold had been worn off (photos in listing did not show the wear), however that is not a big issue to me. Packaging was very good and seller was prompt in shipping and responding.

The Costume Gnome, Designer, Seamstress, Creative Upcycling, Vintage Hound, Collector of Art

I started my shop in the early 70's with my beginnings in the vintage clothing business where we would purchase bales of vintage garments, clean them and sell them. Fabrics such as old draperies and bark cloth was a source of creativity.
We made vests hats overhaul dresses with inserts and appliqued embellishments. There were grades of clothing that could be purchased. For example we could by 2nds in jeans and dresses, which meant they were damages or stained and we would alter them into other items. Short jackets skirts etc.
The vintage business was quite exciting during those times because so much of the New York and Hollywood Silver Screen Era garments were still available and in great condition. Now such clothing is rare and difficult to find in a wearable state.
Nowadays there are many sources for reproductions for antique and vintage garments.
This is my expertise. I have over the years collected vintage fabrics and patterns of which I have available to my Etsy customers for custom made garments, I have an extensive collection of multi sized patterns too.
