Discovering a True Passion
My name is Malcolm. one day back in 2017 I was working a previous 9-5 job building custom pools. I couldn't help but notice all of the beautifully decorated wooden planter boxes on the home owner's property. I was enticed by these crafty boxes so after work that night I dusted off some old tools & decided to build a pair of my own. They turned out okay, pretty good for a first timer. What really struck me was how much I enjoyed the process of building those boxes. From that date forth, every day after work I was working on a wooden project, following this newly discovered passion. Next I built a desk. Then a framed glass cabinet. My skills & knowledge grew expansively in a short period of time, as most of my energy was devoted to making new creations. I left custom pools behind me to pursue a career in commercial aviation. Although I enjoyed this, I always found myself darting back to the workshop after flying. In 2019 I decided to ditch the flying career to pursue my dream of furniture making full time. Through the past couple of years I've gained a ton of experience in woodworking & running a business. I've built solid relationships with some of North America's top furniture makers and material suppliers. I founded Fonthill Mill Co. in 2019 as a platform to push the art of woodworking & epoxy art to new limits. All of my pieces are hand made from local reclaimed hardwood & eco friendly solid epoxy. Top quality craftsmanship is only achievable through a burning passion for the art & true creativity. Authentic creativity is very rare. It's as straight forward as that. As a creative person, I have the ability to envision a piece before it's made. Colours matter, contours matter, ratio matters. These are aspects which draw the eyes & soul to a piece of art.
