About GeekandTea

On Etsy since 2013

Made by a Botanist.

We are a small geeky tea and herb company thriving in the cool and quiet forests of Dundas Ontario minutes from downtown Hamilton. We love growing and blending healthy herbs into teas that you can feel good about purchasing and drinking. We focus on creating our blends based on our botanical training, using organic growing practices and teaching others the power of plants. Our goal are to grow and source locally, and source from fair-trade and organic farmers knowing that the ingredients are sustainably and ethically harvested. Our 5 main principles are as follows:

Farm to Cup
We believe that good teas come from good ingredients. We want our teas to have a relationship with each person they interact with. We grow approximately 35% of our own herbs always following organic practices, we source from local farmers and work with fair-trade and direct to farm purchasing from certified organic growers from around the world. We traceable origin that we can be proud of.

We try to ensure the lowest amount of waste created which is why we choose our materials responsibly and we want this to show in our products, branding and packaging. We use only reusable tins and jars, paper based labels made with plant-glues, print using soy-based inks, and our plastic, well it isn't plastic at all but plant-starch that is compostable in city and industrial sites within 6-8 months.

Made by a Botanist.
We are professionals. As a trained field botanist, agriculturalist and herbalist, we know plants. The road to growing and making wellness teas began in 2002 as I was training to become a field botanist travelling to places such as Costa Rica to study agricultural crops (tea, coffee, chocolate and bananas) and doing research into plant pathology as a graduate student. Our business eventually bloomed in 2013. We love working with the soil, driving a tractor, turning compost, and making a huge mess in the gardens - just ask our students. Coming home everyday with compost-encrusted hands and mud on the face is what drives our success to love nature and develop teas that are not only completely organic - but use whole botanicals - not artificial flavours.

Our favourite things in life include foraging for botanicals, travelling, and teaching plant biology. All these things keep us busy each day from our lives with bees and of course, tending to more potted plants then any sane person can manage.

At Geek and Tea we invite you to join us on a botanical adventure and enjoy a cup of delicious, organic and beautiful tea!
