The artful design and quality of this bench is phenomenal. Communication and entire transaction executed flawlessly, and I wouldn't hesitate to purchase items in the future from these artists! Thank you for the one of a kind bench!

Gorgeous piece, casts a beautiful, atmospheric light. Enjoyed chatting with the maker at pickup.
Where did ya come from? A little about the craftsman...
The principle builder of our products has built both conventional wood-frame homes, as well as whole-log houses. He has harvested timber and owned and operated a sawmill. In conjunction with the home-building, he has built both dry-stacked and masonry rock walls, preferring to use natural materials wherever possible.
At different times he has also designed and constructed industrial equipment using metal components, leading to a good understanding of structural possibilities and design "looks" from a diverse range of components. Along the way, as a personal interest, he has built varied types of furniture and cabinetry, exploring different design and product types.
A desire to continue with creative activities which produce useful and desirable objects for use in peoples lives provided the incentive to start making alternatives to mass-produced items available to consumers. While it is fine for many, perhaps most, to purchase and use home decor items which are made largely overseas, many others are more interested in locally sourced and made articles. Many believe that it is important to know what is used in the making of their purchases, how and where it was made, and even who made it. Having things which are more unique also gives many people additional enjoyment of their purchases, particularly if the uniqueness caters to a special interest of the purchaser.
Wood is the primary raw material in our products designed and built for home decor uses. As an organic material, wood best fulfills the requirements for aesthetic, structural and environmental excellence. Where possible, salvaged and/or recycled wood is sourced to ensure maximum character and environmental stewardship. When properly designed and built, natural wood products can provide a warmth and ambiance which is, in our opinion, superior to any other medium. Modern finishing products which are water-based and have low, to no, volatile organic compounds, are used to finish and enhance most of our wood surfaces. Other used/salvaged structural and ornamental metal parts are also incorporated into finished products where desired and possible. It is widely accepted that two of the most pressing environmental issues facing the natural environment today are global warming and garbage accumulations. Using salvaged wood and metal products can reduce the impact of both these harmful outcomes, particularly when compared to the use of synthetic materials. Carbon contained in the wood itself is kept from the atmosphere, as well as not needing to expel more carbon from energy sources used in new production. The saving of energy is inherent in all re-used materials. It is a source of satisfaction to contribute to the health of our homes by creating things of beauty.
Our name of "Generational Design Works" is meant to convey the fact that there is involvement in the creative process of not only multi-generations of persons to ensure greater perspective, but also the use of materials which span multi-generations of use to ensure greater environmental responsibility and sustainability.
