How My Diagnosis Built A Business
In 2011, I was diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) as an adult in my mid-20s. I found great relief with my diagnosis. Something to help explain many of the difficulties I had growing up—in school, at work, in personal relationships, etc.
Something I continue to struggle with on a day-to-day basis is fidgeting. A continuous barrage of toe-tapping, leg bouncing, cheek biting, pencil twirling, and nail picking. I pushed myself to frustration when trying to stop because, after a few seconds, I would forget that I was trying to stop and unconsciously start up again. As I'm sure many of my fellow ADD/ADHD-ers know well, this cycle can be extremely frustrating!
During my initial journey to understand my diagnosis, I read an extremely helpful book called “Fidget to Focus: Outwit your Boredom: Sensory Strategies for Living with ADD.” I learned that the true reason we fidget is not always to unleash our pent-up energy or nervousness but to stimulate the brain into a state of alertness and focus. Aha!
The Think Link fidget toys I sell through this shop are exactly what I made myself to cope with this fidgeting so many years ago and I still use them today! They help me when I drive, work, watch a movie, hold a phone conversation, and all kinds of things. When I started this shop in 2016, I thought, well, I've found these so helpful maybe someone else will too?
As I write this, GoThinkLink Shop is closing in on 14,000 sales! Beyond the numbers, it's the amazing stories and reviews I receive about how this tiny toy has made an impact on so many people, adults and children, that make my business experience so great and rewarding.
Thank you to everyone who has supported our small family business!
