About GrantandGarbo

The Fashion Matchmaker

GrantandGarbo started very simply as a way to find a new home for the beautiful and unique vintage pieces I have picked up randomly for years.

I love clothing! This doesn't make me unique, many people love clothing and there are thousands of them on Etsy alone. For years I thought everyone must have a bin in the corner stuffed full of beautiful clothing that neither fit nor were in a style that I might wear. Why wouldn't you just collect these pieces? So I did. I am fully aware that many people do collect clothing (this is why I have a business) but I didn't love that the pieces I acquired just stopped living once they found their way to my bin. Sometimes I gave these pieces to friends, and they loved them, but most items either did not fit people I knew or were not in a style they liked to wear. There are factors that come into play when you are buying vintage:
1. You love the piece
2. You fit the piece
3. Or you love the piece enough to make-it-work
I regularly picked up pieces under all of these categories and before I knew it my bin was several bins and I either had a shop or a hoarding problem!

GrantandGarb opened on Etsy in July of 2014 between contracts as a way to supplement my income. I have a degree in theatrical design and worked in live events, film and TV and as a fashion stylist at a local vintage clothing store. I continued to collect pieces and gradually became better at photographing and listings pieces. In 2018 I decided to start working towards making GrantandGarbo my main source of income. It has been a journey and a constant learning opportunity with so much more to come!

Additional policies and FAQs

Please note that the item you are considering purchasing may have been stored for many years. Items will usually not look new and may show signs of expected wear that is consistent with age, We will point out any issues I feel are major. Item history is unknown to us. It is probable that it has been worn, washed or altered and sometimes tags have been cut out or worn off by past owners so we may not know an actual brand name or size. We will do our best to get you the most accurate measurements and fabric type as possible so please check the description on the listings page to make sure you have a quality fit and will be completely happy with your purchase before buying.
Sometimes I may add a ribbon, repair a broken zipper or add a misplaced button, flower pin, or embellishment to the vintage item to enhance or brighten up the look. Item is sometimes pinned to mannequin for presentation and item may be smaller or larger than it appears, please refer to given measurements listed and feel free to contact us for clarification if you need to or would like confirmation. All posted measurements are in inches.

*Please note that colors may appear different on other computer screens or monitors.

**Please ask any questions you may have before purchasing.

We try to be very honest with our costumers about the condition of an item but please remember that we are referring to the condition of a previously loved item.

***NOTE*** PLEASE buy only if you agree and understand that if and when you purchase a vintage item you understand it can be anywhere from 20-100 years old.
Clothing may be hand made, tailor made, commercial or designer made. If it is an item which has labels remaining we will state the designer name and often include a photo of the label/tag, if no labels remain as is often common, as sometimes labels/tags have been cut out from past owners or due to alterations. If no label is present this may or may not mean the item was hand made, and as I do not know the actual history of the item. Zippers were metal up until the mid-1950's and they began to manufacture dresses with nylon or synthetic zippers from mid-50s's on, a zipper should not be relied upon to determine an age of a frock as zippers may have been replaced at some point in the item's history. All items come from a non-smoking environment, however please keep in mind that are no guarantees as to the items previous history.

Thank You

Frequently asked questions

Can I get this in a different color/size?

We do not make any of our items. All items are real vintage and usually we have only one in the size and color you see offered.

I am ordering multiple items the shipping cost seems high. Why?

When ordering multiple items the shipping cost calculator adds the value of each individual item but does not account for resizing or combined shipping cost. If we notice that you have overpaid for shipping we will issue a refund on shipping overages before we ship the complete order. You will see the refund on the packing slip included with your shipped package.

How do you measure your items?

All items are measured while lying flat. Chest/bust, waist and hip measurements are doubled to give the buyer the size around the body.
All measurements are given in inches (indicated with "). If you require additional measurements or want a confirmation please contact us.

Will this fit me?

An easy way to check if an item might fit you is to measure a similar piece of clothing that you already own and compare the listed measurements to those. Always make a note of how stretch might affect the fit. Always consider how you want an item to fit (tight, regular or oversize).

Do you offer Layaway?

Etsy offers a payment plan therefore we no longer offer layaway.

How long will it take to ship?

We use calculated shipping on Etsy. Just add the item to your cart and choose the type of shipping that you want. An estimated shipping time should come up. Please be aware that delays do occur and that we have no control of those delays.

As a general rule this is how long it takes:

In Canada: next day - 7 days
US Standard: 5 - 8 business days
US Express: 2 - 3 business days
International Air: 10 - 14 business days

All shipping is subject to customs and postal delays. The best way to know is to purchase tracked shipping and follow the progress of your package online.

Why doen't the tag size match the measurements or the listing?

Vintage sizes are not the same as modern sizes and we do not always know how an item has been stretched, shrunken or altered. We will always base the list (searchable size) on the measurements we take not the tag size. Please always read the measurements.
