About HypothesisYarns

Sales 1,913
On Etsy since 2018

Playing with yarn while working in science.

I am a self-taught knitter, and the hobby turned into an obsession while I finished my PhD dissertation and/or procrastinated on it. Now I am a defense scientist far from home, enjoying the East Coast life. I've turned to dyeing for relaxation and the indie yarn scene for a sense of community.

Frequently asked questions
Custom and personalised orders

Contact me for custom dyed-to-order inquiries. Note that items dyed to order will add 1-2 weeks of processing time. Custom orders must be paid for in advance of dyeing and are not eligible for return or exchange

Care instructions

For best results, finished items should be washed in cool water with wool wash and laid flat to dry. Although care is taken to thoroughly rinse all my yarn after dyeing, there is still a possibility that colours may bleed, particularly on the first few washes or in hot water. Certain dye colours may also crock onto hands while knitting; this is due to the Ph in the hands, and should not result in any bleeding during washing.

Light bleeding and crocking are normal and do not constitute grounds for a refund.

Free Shipping Offer

We offer free shipping within Canada for orders valued at 175.00 CAD or more, before any taxes, shipping, or other additional costs. Items MAY NOT be combined across multiple orders in order to reach the free shipping threshold, but must instead be accrued in a single order.

Returns and Exchanges

Yarn can be returned or exchanged, provided it is in its original condition. Shipping costs will not be refunded, and the customer is responsible for both the cost of return shipping and (in the case of an exchange) the cost of shipment for the replacement item. Yarn that has been caked, either by the customer or by us (using our skein-winding service) is no longer in its original condition and is NO LONGER ELIGIBLE for returns or exchanges.

Allergens

All my yarn is stored in airtight storage bins with humidity catchers and cedar balls. However, I do have a cat and thus cannot guarantee that my yarn is allergen free. I apologize to any shoppers sensitive to cat dander.
