About Incyanity

Incy—what?

Insanity. Studies have shown there is a fine line between creativity and insanity, and that line may be easily blurred. Are creative people all a little half-cocked? Maybe. The real world is already a pretty strange place, but considering the day to day grind and the ever-increasing bureaucracy we face, perhaps it’s no wonder that we turn time and again to imagination to take us to much stranger yet amazing horizons. For me, life would be boring if I didn’t indulge in my (creative) insanity.

What color is your straitjacket? In my world, it’s cyan. So, Incyanity. I write, crochet, and take lots of pictures. Through Incyanity I combine my love of photography with my love of yarn to make fabulous nature-inspired hand-dyed colorways for other yarnists to enjoy and create beautiful things with!

Incyanity yarn is dyed in a smoke-free and pet-free home in Alberta, Canada.

I love nature and am a proud Canadian, born and raised in Calgary. Cyan is my favorite color. I enjoy video games, writing, crochet, and photography. Drawing? Web design? Books? Those too. I probably have too many hobbies. Completely yarn obsessed!

Frequently asked questions
How should I care for the items I create with Incyanity yarn?

For best results (even with superwash yarn), hand wash in cold water and lay flat to dry. Never wring or scrub the yarn.

Use a neutral pH detergent such as Synthrapol or Dawn dish soap. Regular laundry detergent or other soaps might increase the pH of your water (making it alkaline). Alkaline conditions encourage dye to “strip out” (bleed) regardless of how well the color was set originally. Yikes!

Note: If you live in an area with naturally “hard” water, you might see bleeding even if you use a neutral pH detergent! In that case, you may also have to use filtered or distilled water to wash with.

Be sure never to use hot or warm water when washing, as that can also encourage bleeding.

I live in/near Calgary, Alberta. Can I pick up my order to save on shipping?

Absolutely! Please contact me via Etsy Conversations before placing your order so I can help you with this.

I need more yarn than what you have in stock. Will you do a custom order?

Not at this time, sorry! I am a one-woman operation so have to manage my time carefully to be fair to all customers. However, if you are interested in a particular colorway please feel free to contact me via Etsy Conversations and I'll let you know when I plan to restock it.

How consistent are the colors in Incyanity yarn?

I work hard to ensure each colorway is reproduced as faithfully as possible each time I dye. However, I do not have dye lots and hand dyed yarn always has some variation from one skein to the next. No two skeins will be exactly alike.

When using Incyanity yarn for larger projects, always alternate skeins every two or three rows to camouflage color differences between skeins.

I do my best to accurately represent colors in all photos. I do retouch product shots where necessary. However, different monitors will show color differently. Please take this into account while shopping.

I didn't like what I received. Why don't you accept returns or exchanges?

My hope is that you won’t ever want to return/exchange your yarn. I want you to love it!

If you are unhappy with your purchase, please let me know so I can improve going forward. Unfortunately, I can’t accept returns or exchanges on yarn because once it is out of my pet-free and smoke-free home I can’t guarantee the order will be returned in an as-new condition so that I can resell it.

Why did my yarn arrive in this funny-looking bag?

I use a lightweight bag before putting yarn in the shipping bag. On the off-chance the shipping bag is torn (or opened by Customs) during transit, the yarn itself will still be wrapped up and hopefully protected from contamination. The inner bag can also be useful for yarnists who like to store their yarn that way to prevent moths or other critters getting at it.

But plastic is awful for the environment so wherever possible I try to reuse clean bags I already have from other sources, and encourage you to reuse them too! Reusing bags also helps (in a small way) to keep costs on packing materials down. When I don’t have anything suitable to reuse, I opt for compostable bags so you have the option to reuse it for kitchen scraps.

My question isn't answered here. Where can I find more information?

Please have a look at my extended shop FAQ at incyanity.net/yarn-shop/faq. Thanks!
