"No hay que juzgar un libro por su portada."
Bueno, en mi opinión, es cierto. Del mismo modo, no se debe juzgar la calidad de un escritor por si tiene o no un agente literario, o si publica o no con una de las cinco grandes editoriales.
Me llamo Tiffany Terlop y soy escritora y artista; he dedicado toda mi vida a intentar sacar provecho de mi escritura y mi arte, pero nunca lo he conseguido.
"No era tu momento. Necesitas más seguidores en Instagram. ¡Publica con regularidad! ¡Reescribe el manuscrito hasta que un solo agente quede satisfecho!" Y así sucesivamente.
Muchas cosas me llevaron a abrir esta tienda. Esa es una historia larga en sí misma, pero sepan que soy una persona que lucha contra viento y marea y apoyo a los que luchan contra viento y marea. ¿Escritores independientes? Son los máximos desvalidos.
Los autores independientes lo tienen muy difícil. Lo sé porque soy uno de ellos. Tienen que escribir por su cuenta, encontrar lectores beta, a veces pagarles, pagar a los editores, pagar por el formato, pagar por las portadas, pagar por el merchandising, pagar por esto, pagar por aquello, Y además tienen que tener seguidores en las redes sociales, Y tienen que hacer todo esto con una familia y un trabajo (en la mayoría de los casos).
Sé lo difícil que les resulta encontrar lectores y sé que no todos tienen un gran presupuesto (diría que casi todos tenemos muy poco presupuesto). Me compadezco de los escritores independientes cuando no tienen las mejores portadas o la sinopsis más impactante. La gente juzga sus libros por eso y muchos lo ignoran. Pero en el caso de los autores independientes, realmente NO se puede juzgar un libro por su portada. Una mala portada o una sinopsis deficiente (porque escribir una novela de 80.000 palabras es MUY diferente a escribir una sinopsis de 100 palabras, créanme) no significa que no puedan escribir una historia increíble.
Así que si estás aquí en mi tienda y has leído hasta aquí, entonces definitivamente lee la siguiente parte.
Esta librería es para el lector que busca libros que NO ha visto en las estanterías de Barnes & Noble. Es para el lector que ama leer, no por la etiqueta del New York Times ni porque esté de moda... simplemente le encanta leer y descubrir historias nuevas e increíbles.
Todos los libros de esta tienda son de autores independientes con poca o ninguna presencia en redes sociales. Oculté las portadas y las sinopsis para evitar que el lector los descarte por eso.
Personalmente he seleccionado todos los libros de esta tienda, he conversado con los autores y he ilustrado (sin coste alguno para ellos) los productos relacionados con sus libros.
Creo en los autores, artistas y creadores independientes. Apoyo a los que luchan contra viento y marea.
¡Y a un buen perro no hay quien lo detenga!
PD: Todos los libros independientes que aparecen en esta tienda los compré yo misma con mi propio dinero. En algunos casos, los autores tuvieron la amabilidad de donar sus libros.

Well, in my opinion, that's true. Just like you shouldn't judge how good a writer a person is by whether or not they have a literary agent, or whether or not they have a Big 5 publishing house.
My name is Tiffany Terlop and I'm a writer and an artist--who has spent her entire life trying to make something of her writing and art--and it just never ever happened.
"It wasn't your time. You need more fans on IG. Post consistently! Rewrite the manuscript until that one single agent is happy!" It goes on and on.
Many, many things have led me to opening this shop. That is a big 'ol story in itself, but just know that I'm an UNDERDOG and I ROOT for the underdogs out there. Indie writers? They're the ultimate underdogs.
Indie authors have it really tough. I know because I am one. They have to write all on their own, find beta readers, sometimes pay them, pay editors, pay for formatting, pay for book covers, pay for merch, pay for this, pay for that, AND they have to have a social media following, AND they have to do all this with a family and a job (in most cases).
I know how hard it is for them to find their readers and I know that they don't all have a big budget (I'd argue almost all of us have barely ANY budget). I feel for indie writers when they don't have the best book covers, or the most amazing book blurb. People judge their books based on that and many brush it aside. But in the case of indie authors, you really CANNOT judge a book by the cover. A bad cover or rough blurb (because writing a 80k word novel is VASTLY different than writing a 100-word book blurb, let me be the one to tell you) doesn't mean they can't write one hell of a good story.
So if you're here at my shop and you've read this far, then definitely read this next part.
This shop is for the reader who wants to read books that you HAVEN'T seen on the shelf at Barnes n Noble. This is for the reader that loves to read, not for the NYT label or because it's what's trending... they just love to read and discover new and amazing stories.
All of the books in this store are by indie authors with little to no social media following. I hid their book covers and their blurbs because I don't want the reader to brush it off based on that.
I personally have selected all of the books in this shop, had conversations with the authors, and have (at no charge to them) illustrated the merch for their books.
I believe in indie authors, artists, and creators. I root for the underdog.
And you can't keep a good dog down!
PS: All the indie books featured in this shop were purchased by me out of my own pocket. In some cases, authors were kind enough to donate their books.
