Japlongaplong is a small label that has been around since 2010 and has set itself the goal of developing clothes that not only appeal to parents, but in which the children feel at home. First and foremost are the freedom of movement, the cosiness and the co-waxing effect over three sizes. Many parents tell me that their children don't want to wear other pants anymore because they feel so comfortable in them. Also very much loved is the treasure collector's bag, which has many trousers: a large, side-sitting pocket in which quite a lot fits.
All garments are lovingly designed and sewn by me, Corinna Kirchner, herself and with great care. The origin of the pieces is therefore absolutely comprehensible, unlike off-the-shelf clothing. As a mother, it bothered me that children's clothes are often made for small adults and are also either broken or too small after a short time. Sustainability is very important to me: rather less clothing in the closet that keeps what it promises and of which you have something for a long time, than a full closet that has to be constantly refilled.
I founded the label Japlongaplong in Bremen. And what is Bremen known for? For the Bremen Town Musicians. If the actual monument is even tiny in Bremen's city center, the story of the 4 animals who outwit a gang of robbers and then make fun of their feast has always been a sympathetic, anarchic part of Bremen's identity for me.
My son was born there. We had an old picture book - half shredded, because bought used - about the Bremen Town Musicians by Manfred Hausmann at home. The animals have beautiful phonetic words in the book. The rooster makes Koküriki, the cat Miaumihi, the dog Rabaurabomm and the donkey Japlongaplongaplomm. My son loved the old, shredded book and I really liked reading it because it has a great sound and rhythm.
I fell in love with this Japlongaplongaplomm word that is so beautiful musical and funny. That's where the name and the animal comes from my logo. Donkeys are animals that I like very much. They don't always do what you expect (or demand!) from them. They have their own will and thus a special strength. It is similar to children. Through the defiant phases, all parents have to go through. The children learn to develop their own self. Knowing that, everything is half as bad. Children have their own playful logic, their own way of understanding things, and their very own freedom and curiosity. Japlongaplong's clothing is made for children. It must not press, must be suitable for rage, absolutely suitable for everyday use and very important: the children should feel very comfortable in it. Children must be allowed to be children. And what they wear is supposed to go along with it all. And if they like to put things on, even better! This is also possible quite early without help.
