The Spinner:
I am a recent graduate of the University of Louisville. Less than a year ago I received my Bachelors of Fine Art in Ceramics and Fibers. Four the last four years, I have been spinning yarn in addition to my fine art studies. Most recently I participated in the Open Studio Residency at Haystack Mountain School of Crafts, where I had two weeks to focus on making paper.
The Yarn:
All of my yarn is made from Kentucky Local wool or alpaca. A sheep farmer and dear friend in Henry County Kentucky raises all of the Corriedale Romney wool. I also hand dye some of my yarns; all of the blue yarns are dyed in Indigo as roving, then spun. I spin my yarn in my studio on my Louet s10 spinning wheel. I also utilize a Louet Hand Drum carder to achieve a specific blend of colors that fits my aesthetic. I spin both single and two-ply yarn in both wool and alapaca. I have won 5 ribbons in the past 3 years for my yarn at The Kentucky State Fair and The Kentucky Sheep and Fiber Festival.
The Presentation:
The tags are made from recycled paper and are typewritten on using my grandmothers Royal De Luxe from the 1940’s. I emboss the tags with ‘My Old Kentucky Home Spun’, the date it was established ‘2012’, and my name ‘Jenna Leigh’. I also include a typewritten thank you card to every customer; these are written on handmade paper and place in vellum envelopes.
