How Finding Serenity Led to Spreading Inspiration, Awareness and Hope

My motto is the Serenity prayer, with a tag on of; and create with love!

In 2010, after a lifetime of living with chronic pain, I finally found the serenity to accept my disabilty and discovered jewelry making. I had actually lived with pain & fatigue most of my life, but when it became constant I really struggled.

After a few years, I met many other survivors online, and was introduced to the Spoon Theory. You can read The Spoon Theory by Christine Miserandino to find out the special significance of spoons; http://www.butyoudontlooksick.com/articles/written-by-christine/the-spoon-theory/

As with many spoonies, after attempting to work outside my home, I found I simply couldn't manage. I needed to re-define myself, and I have found all the passion and hope I craved in my shops. I feel I have found a new way to encourage people with disabilities. I have dedicated this shop to spreading hope, encouragement, awareness and kindness.

My work space became my bed many years ago. Due to ack pain, Fibromyalgia, migraines, and anxiety. Plus my battle with depression. It can be overwhelming.

Living with pain makes me crave comfort, so my creations are beautiful first, comfortable second, and durable third. Really, its almost a three way tie ;-). I test every design, and can help you chose what is best for your needs, including the need for affordable jewelry. I pour my heart and soul into my creations and many customers say they can feel it. I love that, I love hearing from my customers. It is as much a part of my therapy as the jewelry-making.

I make side clasp necklaces, bracelets with magnets, soft corded necklaces comfortable to wear in bed, smooth, soft designs, light weight earrings and much more. Of course I also have designs for those with allergies.
If you have a problem with jewelry, tell me about it, I'm sure I can design something for you! Most of these I make custom, and I have two shops, so don’t fret if you don’t see what you're looking for, and if your idea fits with my brand, I’ll be happy to work with you!

My style changed a great deal after that major health crisis. I am still recovering, and may never be able to work at a desk again. I came to accept my new limitations. Also, after being extremely weak and dependant, I learned to appreciate the beauty around me much more. I decided life is too precious to waste it trying to please others, though I do strive to please my customers!

My creativity is an essential distraction and inspiration, as well as an important source of income. Without it, I would not have most of my assistive devices.

The one thing I have learned above all else is that there are many ways around an obstacle. You don't always have to accept it. A life with pain is difficult, but it can be a happy life. I write more about my life with chronic pain in my blog on my website.

I design and create all my jewelry, with about quarter of my designs being one-of-a-kind and the rest parts of specific collections. I especially repeat awareness and inspirational pieces, although most are unique in some way.

In 2015, I created a special non-profit project that is featured in my shop. Care packages are sent to people with chronic illness who are really suffering physically, emotionally and financially. Mostly, I want to reach out to people who are at a risk of falling into deep depression. It is a forgotten aspect of chronic illness. I have made donating simple and affordable. For as little as $6 USD, you can sponsor a care package. See KDS Serenity Project.

New in 2016, I have added a KDS Forever collection, jewelry designed for you, made to last! I will be building on that collection all year. I'm quite ecclectic, so many styles are represented, and MANY are not yet shown in this shop. I make a new piece most weeks, thats a lot of jewelry!

Care instructions

It is best to keep KDS jewelry dry. Only my 100% stainless and aluminum jewelry are made to withstand water or heavy sweating.

Plating on any plated pieces will wear off, even the best quality. Keeping pieces dry, and stored in the ziploc I send will extend their life. If you want to wear a piece daily it may need replacing after 1-2 months (30-60 days of wear). I created the KDS Forever Collection for an option that will not wear out.

Vegan suede and silk may bleed if they get soaking wet. I test the ones I sell and they have never stained anything, but I cannot guarantee that it will not happen, as I cannot predict the way they will be worn.

Sizing details

When buying a bracelet, please chose your wrist size in inches. I will size it on a wooden madrel so it can be attached and move without falling off or climbing to your elbow. Of course this is an educated estimate on your need, feel free to tell me if you'd prefer a snug or loose bracelet. Contact me if you would like a different size.

Necklaces are also measured in inches.

Ring sizes are in North American ring size.

Gift wrapping and packaging

I package items thinly and economically, unless items are too big. I ship in ziploc bag that are ideal for storage.

I add a personal note and surprise gift to every order. I can switch my note for one from you if you contact me with instructions.

If you chose a shipping upgrade, thickness is irrelevant to the cost, so you can request a jewelry box. For orders over $20 usd, there is no extra charge for a jewelry box.

Can I chose my surprise gift?

The wonderful thing about a surprise gift is that it is surprise. I may offer options, but I reserve the right to change the gift without warning since it is a surprise. I hope you enjoy it, but please remember, it is a free bonus.

How to chose the right bracelet size

That’s easy, just chose your wrist size!
After 9 years and over 600 sales I have found its best to use a wooden mandrel (see pic) and make the bracelet to fit the wrist. Trust me, length varies, it depends on the number of charms and the weight of chain.

Normally I make the bracelet then attach it onto my wood mandrel at the size of your wrist and make sure its easy to attach. I can also make sure it swings around easily and so on. It has never failed to please! I wouldn’t want it to fit poorly, or have a tail so long it catches on things. It will be adjustable in case you want it to tighten or loosen it.
