Laura Spring, originaria dello Staffordshire, è una designer / maker tessile che vive e lavora a Glasgow creando audaci disegni di stampa grafica che vengono trasformati attraverso la stampa serigrafica e digitale in accessori di moda, articoli per la casa e articoli di cancelleria. Si è laureata alla Glasgow School of Art, dove ha conseguito una laurea in graphic design nel 2002. Sempre preferendo 'fare', Laura ha iniziato a lavorare in vari reparti di costumi all'interno dell'industria teatrale e cinematografica dopo la laurea. Tuttavia, alla fine del 2011, dopo una residenza estiva di artigianato a Cove Park, in Scozia, Laura ha fondato il suo omonimo studio di etichette e stampe nel cuore di Glasgow e ha portato la sua prima collezione a Londra per esporre come parte della vetrina "Spotted" di Charlotte Abraham a Top Drawer.

Con un enorme amore per il colore, la stampa, il motivo e il processo, Laura mira a creare prodotti e disegni basati su questi ideali. Motivi audaci mescolati a colori vivaci trasformati in prodotti splendidamente realizzati sono alla base del lavoro di Laura. L'ispirazione cambia da collezione a collezione, ma il lavoro passato si è incentrato sul rapporto tra motivo e funzione e, più recentemente, Nature's Camouflage.

I nostri prodotti serigrafati sono stampati a mano internamente presso il nostro studio di Glasgow utilizzando le migliori materie prime. Con sede in una vecchia segheria, il nostro studio ospita una vasta gamma di persone creative e amiamo lavorare da qui. Stampiamo il tessuto a mano sul nostro tavolo da stampa tradizionale utilizzando inchiostri a base d'acqua che polimerizzano qui in studio.

Oltre a lavorare sulle proprie collezioni, Laura ama collaborare con altri artisti/ designer e aziende in vari campi. Ha lavorato con gli artisti Laura Aldridge e Ciara Phillips per produrre gamme di borse in edizione limitata per House of Voltaire rispettivamente 2012 e 2014. Ha anche prodotto edizioni limitate per Lush Cosmetics, Belle & Sebastian, The National Trust for Scotland, Not Another Bill e sta attualmente lavorando a un entusiasmante progetto chiamato India Street, curato da Katy West. Ciò ha portato Laura e altri tre designer scozzesi a un viaggio di ricerca di due settimane in India nel febbraio 2015 per sviluppare progetti e prototipi per la fase successiva del progetto ispirato all'Archivio Rosso della Turchia nel Museo Nazionale di Edimburgo. Questo è previsto per il lancio a Tramway a Glasgow nel giugno 2016.

Laura espone regolarmente a fiere sia qui nel Regno Unito che a livello internazionale e ha il suo lavoro rifornito in una piccola selezione di negozi e gallerie in tutto il mondo.

Laura Spring, originally from Staffordshire, is a textile designer/maker living and working in Glasgow creating bold graphic print designs that are transformed through screen and digital print into fashion accessories, homeware and stationery. She is a graduate of Glasgow School of Art where she was awarded a BA in graphic design in 2002. Always preferring to ‘make’, Laura began working in various costume departments within the theatre and film industry after graduation. However in late 2011 after a summer craft residency at Cove Park, Scotland, Laura established her own eponymous label and print studio in the heart of Glasgow and took her first collection to London to exhibit as part of Charlotte Abraham’s ‘Spotted’ showcase at Top Drawer.

With an enormous love for colour, print, pattern and process, Laura aims to create products and designs based around these ideals. Bold patterns mixed with bright colours transformed into beautifully crafted products underpin Laura’s work. Inspiration changes from collection to collection but past work has centred around the relationship between motif and function and most recently, Nature’s Camouflage.

Here at Laura Spring we believe in keeping 100% of our production within the UK and we take great care to ensure all our products are manufactured to the highest standards.

Our screen printed products are hand printed in-house at our Glasgow based studio using the finest raw materials. Based in an old sawmill, our studio is home to a diverse range of creative people and we love working from here. We print the fabric by hand on our traditional printing table using water-based inks that cure here in the studio.

In addition to working on her own collections, Laura enjoys collaborating with other artists/designers and companies across various fields. She has worked with artists Laura Aldridge and Ciara Phillips to produce limited edition ranges of bags for House of Voltaire 2012 and 2014 respectively. She has also produced limited editions for Lush Cosmetics, Belle & Sebastian, The National Trust for Scotland, Not Another Bill and is currently working on an exciting project called India Street, curated by Katy West. This took Laura and three other Scottish-based designers on a two-week research trip to India in February 2015 to develop designs and prototypes for the next phase of the project inspired by the Turkey Red Archive in Edinburgh’s National Museum. This is due to launch at Tramway in Glasgow in June 2016.

Laura exhibits at trade shows regularly both here in the UK and internationally and has her work stocked in a small selection of shops and galleries throughout the world.
