I'm Leyda, and art isn't just what I do; it's who I am. Painting chose me, weaving itself into the fabric of my life. There was never a choice – one day, I simply woke up, decided to paint for the rest of my days, and that was that.

My inspiration? Nature's beauty. I crave to share that beauty with those who might not see it firsthand. Venturing into the wilderness, I capture its essence on canvas, bringing back moments that stir the soul.

For over 50 years, I've immersed myself in Canada's remote corners, from Eureka on Ellesmere Island to places just 600 miles from the North Pole. My art is a love letter to the Canadian wilderness – its vastness, fragility, and indescribable beauty.

With each brushstroke, I strive to be a visual storyteller, capturing the majesty and sometimes intimidating landscapes. My mastery lies in subtle colors, gentle forms, and an unwavering dedication to detail that conveys texture and contrast.

My painting table
Meet me.
My current painting I am working on. The Mount Assiniboine Valley, B.C. Canada
My faithful brush gave up. I will frame it and give it to the owner of the painting.
My very first painting was when I was 18. It is of Teslin Lake in the Yukon

Few words about me

Painting has always been a must for me. It crept up on me consumed me and took over my life. I never really had a choice in the matter. I woke up one day and decided that that was what I was going to do for the rest of my life, and that was the beginning and the end of it.
My desire to paint comes from nature, the beauty of it, and the desire to share that experience with people who perhaps don’t see it or can’t. So I go out into the wilderness, capture it on canvas, and bring it back so that I can share the wonderful feelings it gives me.
The rewards not only come from the ability to capture these moments on canvas but from the letters and phone calls from people around the world telling me that they just saw a sunset, another Leyda Campbell sky, snow scene or sunrise on a mountain.
This gives me great pleasure.
