It was the middle of winter after a nasty arthritis flare that had left me unable to paint for several months. It was when I started to get better that I made a wood toy on a meat bandsaw my brother had thrown out. It sparked such interest among friends that several years later the bandsaw is gone but the toy remains as a reminder of where I started. From the early age of 8 I would wake up in tears of pain, unable to move, unable to find relief. It was many years, crutches, braces, wheelchairs, walkers, and canes were in constant need. It was not till 23 when I was diagnosed that I finally started to get treatment for an auto immune disease called Ankylosing Spondylitis. My hips and knees were already bad, but i found out my back would be the next victim. 24 I started woodworking and even though my back has fusion I am doing better. Woodworking has helped me take the braces off. The cane sits in a corner collecting dust. My life has been only enriched from wood. I have a passion for toys, because they are what I relied on so much as a child. I often donate to hospitals and to charities for I was a child like so many of them. What better way to show they are thought of then to build them something from ones hands and ones soul. It is uncertain how much longer I can do this, so each day is a gift and I surely try and not waste it.

It was always an idea to own a business, never thought it would be woodworking. Life is funny that way, I have never been happier and it continues to enrich my life in ways I never knew. Its a lot of long days and hard work but I would not change one bit of it.
