Video summary: Working on a bicycle painting... the last final touches...

Painting my passion

My inspiration comes mostly from my experience, nature, and from simple things; music is also an important ingredient, it gives me great energy in creating, it brings out my memories and passion.

There is one question I have been asked very often: "Why do you paint bicycles and cyclists?" It may be somewhat unusual to some as it isn’t as common as other subject matters. I feel that an artist who is true to him/herself paints what they feel connected to and passionate about. That is who I am.

The passion I feel for cycling and bicycles, in general, is rooted in my past. I grew up around bicycles and competitive cycling. My father and brother were cyclists and introduced me to the world of cycling in my early years. Between training and racing, working for a TV show broadcasting cycling and watching grand tours on TV, cycling encompassed my everyday life. I really missed it when it wasn't there anymore. That's when I started to paint it.

Although I have an interest in other subject matters, bicycles seem to capture my attention most often. They became a muse and an inspiration for creating something which is embedded deep inside of me. I want to share it with others so that they can feel the passion I have expressed in my artwork. I try to immortalize bicycles in the environment that tells their story the best. I zoom in on their parts and components to enhance details.

My medium of choice is acrylic paint on textured canvas. I apply the texture to canvas creating the distressed look of worn-out roughness yet exhibiting an equally deep and rich perspective.

I learned to sew when I was 15 from my aunt, the best seamstress in town. I like to sew things when I have a chance. It could be the stocking that you see in this shop, the masks some frontliners needed at time of scarcity, or something fun to wear.
