About

MODO Make - The Story of Urban, Masculine Essentials from Upcylced Industrial Textiles

The name, MODO is short for 'Mora & Dora', who were my two grandmothers - women who lived through two world wars and times of scarcity and resourcefulness. I was a crafty kid growing up, and I was fortunate to be surrounded by talented family members and a community who taught me to knit, crochet and sew. I was conditioned to be obsessed with detail and craftmanship from a very early age.

Although you can buy virtually any craft supply you want nowadays, I find it more intriguing to make 'something from nothing' and give textiles a second chance while honouring the story of their previous life. For example, the Aviator Dopp Kits are shaving bags made out of upcycled airline seats that would have otherwise found a landfill. I love the idea of them continuing to be useful and travelling on new adventures for many years. I am currently working with fish leather and learning how we can use this local, sustainable and otherwise disposed of resource to create aesthetic, functional and essential products. My manufacturing commitment is to use at least 80% upcycled and sustainable materials in each piece.

Today, I create urban casual, essential items from 80%-plus upcycled and/or sustainable textiles for extended lifetime use. MODO is a creative outlet for industrial textile ideas.

Returns and exchanges
Sorry, but at this time MODO Make cannot accept refunds or exchanges, so please purchase seriously. Scars and marks on upcycled materials are kept for their originality and to honour their original lives. There is no such thing as 'flawless' in my shop materials. I do, however, stand by the integrity and long-standing quality of my assembly work and details.

If you have any concerns about you purchased item after you receive it (or if you do not receive it), please contact us and we'll do our best to make it right for you.

What is fish leather like

Fish leather is a considered a sustainable leather product as a bi-product of the food industry and it comes in coated (shiny) or uncoated (suede) varieties. The texture differs by fish or sample.
