About MasterArks

Sales 2,525
On Etsy since 2013

The ancient craftsmen of the Celts, Vikings and Saxons have always inspired me and my work.

Some 35 years ago a younger Ark decided to try to make his living making cloak clasps and medieval jewellery. I had done glass sculpture for ten years and was up for trying something new. I had discovered the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA), a Medieval reenactment group, who sought to recreate a more perfect version of Medieval times centered around the code of chivalry. These people dressed in Medieval clothing and there was a need for authentic jewellery and especially for cloak clasps, since everyone had a cloak. I built a wooden cart to sell my wares from, and Ark's Cart was born. A few years later I was awarded the status of Master within the group and it became Master Ark's Cart.
The business eventually out grew the cart, but my major venues were still Medieval events.

Life changed. I quit making Medieval jewellery, and sold my business and designs to another Medieval jeweller. I moved from New Mexico to Maui, fell in love, and went to England. From England I visited numerous museums, seeing first hand pieces that I had only seen in books and so many things that never make it into books. There were so many things waiting for me to make them! I moved to Canada with my new wife, bought back some of my original designs, and started making new pieces. Master Ark's was reborn.

Now as a much older Ark I have reluctantly entered the 21st century. It is very different than the 10th century where I feel so at home! And here is Etsy - a way to offer my creations to a whole new group of people!

Thank you for being one of those people! There are still so many pieces that I want to make and share with you!

Production partners

  • Karen Lee

    Calgary, AB

Karen has a great sense of design and colour. She creates gemstone necklaces and earrings, often utilizing my pieces in her designs. We have been working together for over a decade and she adds another dimension to Master Ark's creations.

  • Sean Chappell

    Franklinton, NC

Once I create a piece of jewelry, Sean makes a mold from my original. He uses that mold to make wax copies of my piece. He then uses the lost wax casting method to reproduce the piece in bronze or silver. He sends it to me and I finish it to sell.

Frequently asked questions
When can I expect to receive my order?

I usually have your item in the mail within 2 business days. Items are shipped small packet. Delivery within Canada is usually 5-10 days. Delivery to the US is usually about 7 days. Delivery to other international locations usually takes 2-3 weeks. There can be delays during peak shipping seasons, so please shop early!

Do you use recycled materials?

I support sustainability and reducing environmental impact wherever possible in my business. The bronze used in my pieces is formulated with approximately 10% tin and 90% copper. All of the copper used comes from recycled scrap copper. My silver pieces are cast from reclaimed silver.
The cardboard, foam, and zip lock bags used in packaging my pieces for shipping are all reclaimed. I am currently looking into mailers that are more environmentally friendly.
