Any subject can be beautiful in the right light.

My work consists mostly of macabre arrangements of dead animal organs and human remains. My compositions draw considerable influence from 17th century Dutch still life paintings; I often employ visual motifs familiar from those classic works such as dead flowers, human skulls, extinguished candles, tipped cups, rotting foodstuffs, peeled lemons, soap bubbles, etc. I think of my compositions as a more confrontational approach to the philosophical themes of traditional vanitas or memento mori art and, as such, most of the images on this page can be viewed as a kind of meditation on death, decay, and the transience of all things.

At the moment I am settled and happy living in Hamilton, ON, Canada. I am a self-trained artist; my educational background is in mathematics and physics and I came to art as a second career following a long and harrowing stint in academia that found me moving from Ottawa to Toronto to Minneapolis to Cambridge.

My prints have been exhibited in galleries, including The Shadowood Collective’s 2018 show: Betwixt & Between the Monsters we Dream. (The collective also includes world renown artist, writer and filmmaker Clive Barker.) My prints were also featured in The Heart of Darkness’ 2019 group exhibition.

My work has been published in print in the coffee table book Aesthetics of Sickness alongside works of prominent artists such as Andres Serrano, of Piss Christ fame. I’ve also been interviewed / featured in a number of magazines, websites, and blogs.
