Paintings From the Heart

I have painted as long as I can remember and I'm pretty sure I was dreaming about painting before I even knew how to start. One of the secrets of creating great artwork is designing the painting in your mind before you begin. I try to slowly let the concept form as I see a shape or a landscape and I tuck it away in my mind until the day I get to paint it. Sometimes I make notes in my sketchbook about the colors, shapes or concept. As an artist, I search for inspiration in the scenes around me and in my mind’s eye. I take these images of inspiration and combine them with my inner being, my thoughts and emotions; always listening to the Holy Spirit, who is the great creator for direction.
Before starting any piece of art I spend time connecting to my creative flow until I have a clear place to begin. Sometimes I start with a sketch, other times I begin with a colour, a shape, a crayon, paint, charcoal, or no concept at all. Many times as I am painting, a story or a scripture will come to mind and then I see the art concept come together. I believe that each piece of my work is intended for one or more people to receive.
