About

Pike Lake Forge creates ornamental and functional ironwork with a strong emphasis on rejuvenating the art of Blacksmithing in NW Ontario.

Pike Lake Forge creates ornamental and functional works of art, utilizing old tools and methods such as blacksmithing alongside modern metalworking techniques. Wherever possible, the steel is forged, making it corrosion resistant, beautifying indoor and outdoor spaces for generations.

Pike Lake Forge is owned and operated by Carol Kajorinne and Kristen "Krev" Krievin, who in 2013 teamed up with Ugly Wolf Forge to develop a local metalsmith guild: Thunder Giant Metalsmiths. Carol (guild treasurer) and Kriev (president) are devoted to reviving the art of traditional blacksmithing in NW Ontario through the guild and their business.

Carol Kajorinne holds an Honours Bachelor of Fine Arts from Lakehead University, is Artistic Director with CAHEP (Community Arts & Heritage Education Project), is a multidisciplinary artist and arts educator. Carol began incorporating steel into her artistic practice while working on the Preserving Harold Project, funded by the OAC in 2012. (www.preservingharoldproject.blogspot.ca).

Kristen Krievin (BA) is a meticulous smith. Kriev likens blacksmithing to the tempo and dynamics of drumming, which he has been playing since age 13. It is exciting to witness this duo forge a life together, that is centred around creating daily, and exploring the material they are most passionate about.

Follow this metal banging duo online via Facebook and their blog: www.pikelakeforge.blogspot.com

If you are a Thunder Bay Local, reside in the region, or are passing through, be sure to check out their blog for an up-to-date list (under "BUY") to find out where to find their works for sale. http://pikelakeforge.blogspot.ca

Please note that in early 2015 we moved into the Pike Lake Homestead built in the 1920's, and thus do not have access to internet or cell service so please be patient with orders or conversation, we will get back to you and appreciate your support!

We study Blacksmithing from various smiths including Dave Hansen of the Duluth area and call ourselves "Pike Lake Forge"; a homage to my (late) 93 year old Mummu. We love venturing to Blacksmithing conferences and visiting other smiths.

If you are interested in custom orders, do not hesitate to email us at pikelakeforge [!at] gmail.com. Whether we will take on the order is determined by:
-is the project in tune with our artistic practice?
-are we capable? Do we know someone more credible for the job?
-budget (generally, we do not do commissions below $300, but depends on the project),
-timeline. For the months of July-Dec. we are busy producing and selling at shows, and thus cannot take on custom orders unless they are pre-arranged at an earlier date.
