I write plays for children to perform at home or away.
What was my inspiration?
While living in Belgium, on a trip to Ghent, I entered the shop of a local puppet maker and was fascinated by the world I had just stepped into. The wonder of it never left me.
Years later, as a teacher in the United States of America, I began writing puppet scripts and loved seeing the joy and confidence it brought my students as they memorized their parts, created their puppets and scenery, then collaborated to deliver a delightful performance. Children who were otherwise withdrawn became animated and confident in a safe, fun environment.
Creating a variety of stories where children with varying interests could find something they liked was key. Making these scripts available for children around the world has been a dream come true.
Where do the stories come from?
Sometimes I'll take a walk, and the story and characters just pop into my head. Other stories come from observing nature. One of my favorite stories, Seashell Babies, came from a small concrete figure I spotted in a garden shop. The moment I held it in my hand, the story presented itself, as if the little statuette was telling me to write it down. The stories are all there swimming around just waiting to be put in print.
I've also been joined by another author, Joyce Keating, whose 'Ladybug and Spider' series is sure to become a favorite for fans.
Why are we doing something that appears to be 'so last century'?
There's nothing like watching children play like we used to when we were kids - unplugged from video games, phones and other gadgets. Your kids will thank you for encouraging them to enjoy their childhood before those years fritter away.
Thanks for stopping by!
I'd love to receive feedback, as I strive to make the scripts and shopping experience as enjoyable as possible.
Enjoy the scripts and the giggles that ensue!
Sincerely,
Karen J.
