Ravn Cotino, Behind the Creations:

I’m Ravn and welcome to my store, it means a lot to me that you’re stopping by to check it out. In short, I sell unique and high quality silicone moulds that are made from my own sculpted designs!

My creative background is all over the place, but in 2012 I moved from Norway to England to study Technical Arts and Special Effects at University of the Arts London. This is where I was taught to sculpt and mould for the first time.

After University, I started out by making moulds for myself in order to create and sell my own resin-based products. But a couple of years in, I got the idea to offer the silicone moulds themselves in my online shop to see if they would sell. They eventually became more and more popular, so I began designing and introducing a lot more designs and thoroughly specialising in the art of mould making. I estimate that I have made and sold several thousands just over the last couple of years!

What I’ve enjoyed the most so far has been connecting with all the artists who buy and use these moulds and becoming part of a small creative community. When I started I had to mentally let go of some of my ownership over these designs by inviting people to create and even sell their own versions of the casts that they make. Through this approach, my simple little artworks have traveled so much further, through the hands of so many skilled crafters. It’s almost like I’ve got hundreds of indirect collaborators all over the world, which is very exciting to me! I encourage my customers to share their creations with me and each other in the #ravncotino tag on Instagram. It makes me very happy to see that I’ve helped inspire so many people to create something, and they all inspire me in return with their own creative ways of using these silicone moulds.

I aim to create designs that are fun, detailed, creepy, beautiful, cool, decorative, cute, spooky and a little bit magical. Every mould is poured by me and my partner in our home-studio, and every single order is quality-controlled and packed by us personally!

Thank you for reading and engaging with my little world,

Ravn x

Frequently asked questions
What kind of silicone are the moulds made from?

All my moulds are made from a high-quality, platinum-based silicone that have been degassed in a vacuum chamber to ensure that there are no air bubbles in the moulds.

Are these moulds food-safe?

No they are not! But I am working on a line of food-safe moulds that should be released sometime in 2020 if my shop runs well!

What's included in my purchase?

When you purchase a mould/moulds you will also receive the usage rights to sell and profit off any casts that you create with them! You will also not be required to credit/attribute me when sharing or selling these casts. This licence is included in the price.

Can I use the casts to reproduce and sell the silicone moulds?

No. This would be a breach of Copyright.

How can I care for my silicone moulds?

All silicone molds will degrade over time with repeated use. Resin goes quite hot when it cures, which can affect the inside surface of the mould, and some resins behave differently than others. For example; most epoxy-based resins are rougher on silicone than polyester and polyurethane. Using a mould release when casting + taking care to de-mould your pieces gently will help prolong the life of your silicone moulds. Avoid using excessive heat like a blowtorch to pop bubbles in your resin, as this could cause the resin to fuse to the mould. Wash gently with soap and water whenever necessary, and pat dry with a lint-free cloth or allow to air-dry!
