    About ScarlettDahliaShop

I am a visual, textile, and makeup artist. I want to connect my community through my sustainable art practice.

When I look at materials I see what they could be, not what they are. This way of visualizing enables me to incorporate a number of scrap and upcycled items into my work. I believe it is better to re-purpose something in a new and unexpected way, rather than send it through the recycling or landfill system. My leather wallets make use of the entire hide and as much of the fabric as possible - which is why some wallets may have multiple colours and patterns incorporated into the interior. In this way, my studio practice produces very little waste.

I love to work with materials that have a life of their own, which is why I am drawn to working with leather and encaustic wax. Both mediums react back in response to my input and working on a piece is a very dynamic process. I also enjoy experimenting with new methods and techniques; whether it be creating the perfect formula of leather paint from raw artist pigment and mixing mediums or developing the right consistency of transfer fluid for toner prints, I am sure to create a product that is unique to my needs.

I am passionate about creating beautiful pieces that are interesting from afar; pieces that compel you to look closer, where you are rewarded with a new level of intricate details. Whether it is a piece of wall art, a hand-made fashion accessory, or an exhibition piece, I want to set the scene for a story – a story that invokes a feeling.
