I live to create.

Collecting, cutting, polishing and admiring stones are some of my greatest passions. I am fortunate to live in one of the most beautiful places in the world! Kermodei bears, rambling moose and soaring Bald Eagles make their homes in British Columbia, Canada.

The ocean, several rivers, a myriad of lakes and hundreds of creeks amble throughout British Columbia (BC), bringing with them a glorious variety of stones. The various regions are a fascinating collection of exotics terrains. The rocks native to these exotic terrains and the North American plate come in a dazzling array of colours, shapes, sizes and compositions.

Entranced by local stones and geology, I wander around the Pacific northwest in search of unique stones. I have been creating jewelry, and other rock creations, under the Skeena Storm Stones and Skeena Spirit Stones banners, since 2005. We recently moved away from my beloved Skeena River to to a lake near 100 Mile House, BC. I look forward to exploring this new region and finding new treasures to share.

I play with other art forms: metal work, torch enameling, knitted wire, leather, hand lettering, acrylic and water colours, encaustic, acrylic, mixed media, coloured pencil, pen & ink drawings and absolutely every artistic and creative medium I can get my hands on!

Ethics, the Environment & Social Responsibility

My focus has always been on stones native to the Pacific Northwest, yet I often play with rocks and minerals from around the globe. In our new home I'll continue to focus on the rocks and minerals of British Columbia.

My preference is for sustainably collected rocks and minerals. This means finding my own rocks and minerals or seeking them from fellow rockhounds. I support local maker and barter communities and prefer to purchase supplies from an individual before choosing to purchase from a faceless, large corporation. I can't always do this, but if I find the opportunity to do so, I will. It is important to me that the person from whom I obtain my materials acquires them ethically. To me, this means leaving the place you find a rock in the same or better condition than you found it. I endeavour to limit my use of materials that create harm to the environment. Whenever possible, I use recycled and reclaimed materials.

I work hard to source other materials from Fair Trade, local artisans and small businesses. I make every effort to ensure that my materials were not acquired or created with the use of slave or child labour. While not always possible or easy, it is my goal to practice my art and business in an ethical and responsible manner and work I hard to reduce, re-use and recycle in all aspects of my business. For example, I recycle my copper, silver, etc. and often use my metal scrap to create something beautiful. I'm not perfect, but I am constantly striving to improve my business model in alignment with my values of environmental and social responsibility. I also strive to repurposed envelopes and packing material. Please don't be shocked if your purchase arrives in wrinkly paper or in an obviously re-used envelope. I have found that packaging is one of the biggest sour es of garbage and I really want to make sure that what I throw away (or recycle) has truly outlived it's usefulness. Please let me know if it is important to you that your purchase has brand new packaging. I know that, especially when a purchase will be a gift, that appearance matters. I'm definitely not going to pass judgement!

I also sell at local shops, galleries and at craft shows. Items in my store may be sold in one of these other venues. If something you like has disappeared from my Etsy shop, please contact me. I would be happy to create a special item just for you.

Items will be shipped as soon as payment is received, usually within 1-3 days for items listed in the shop. Special orders will ship as soon as they are completed; depending on the project, that could be anywhere from a couple of days to a couple of weeks.

Please note that some items, like chain maille using large rings and intricate weaves can get heavy fairly quickly and that tends to send the cost of shipping up. I insure for the value of the item and include tracking.
