About StitchNoir

Sales 620
On Etsy since 2010

Falling down the rabbit hole into the obsession that is fibre arts!

One of a kind yarns for one a kind projects.

Keeping it quirky and fun, Stitch Noir has been dyeing small batches of handpainted, heavily speckled and textured yarns since 2018.

My name is Amanda and I am the principal dyer of Stitch Noir.
I come from the world of knitting, crochet and spinning and so I know how to dye yarn that is going to work up into something exciting and unique!

In 2017, I had the good fortune to move into a home with a second kitchen (....ahem...or rather with a dye lab!) and I have spent my dyeing time creating unique colourways that I am is happy to share!

Some favorites include my super saturated and heavily speckled yarns, as well as my glow-under-black-light colourways and my gemstone influenced yarns, where I dye a skein to match a semi-precious gemstone pendant on a luscious base of merino/cashmere/silk and then sell them together!

MORE ABOUT ME
Growing up, I had many creative hobbies…writing, painting, drawing, scrapbooking…they were all interests…but then came sewing and the fibre arts!

First came the sewing obsession in 2003. I wanted garments that were a little edgy and out of the ordinary: corseted waists, grommeted shirts, long skirts covered in lace and ribbon, pants decorated with zippers and asymmetry!! The easiest way to have such items? Make them myself!

Next up, the crochet obsession which took hold in late fall 2011 and never let go! Thanks to Youtube and books...all the books! Has anyone else noticed how yarn is rabbit-like? You turn around and suddenly you have a dozen bins of the stuff!

During the summer of 2014 I finally discovered knitting. I jumped in feet first with cabling! I'm finally understanding it and it takes longer but allows for such fine gossamer fabric. So pretty!

Spinning on both the wheel and the drop spindle followed soon after and now I find myself playing with dye colors in my basement on a regular basis!

I do knit and crochet shawls/scarves and other items, which are often up for sale but I also love to create colourways in my dye lab. Matching colors? Sure! I love a challenge!

Welcome to Stitch Noir!

My name is Amanda and I am a small batch indie dyer based in Hamilton ON.

PLS NOTE: The majority of my Etsy items are listed as Dyed to Order and typically can be dyed within a few days. More products and Ready to Ship products can be found by visiting my website: www.stitchnoir.com

I like to keep my colourways quirky and fun and I approach each dye pan and undyed skein as a work of art.
It is my creative outlet and the good thing about that approach is that I get all sorts of interesting colour combinations, sometimes with little help from me at all! The pans take on a life of their own and there’s a freedom in playing while I dye that I really enjoy!

I dye small batches of yarn, although I do also have repeatable colourways….well, as “repeatable” as I can manage, everything being hand-dyed.

I love dark, saturated, and high contrast yarn so that is what you will find. The more dye, the better!
I also have discovered a love of working with neon and fluorescent dyes and, although sometimes you’ll find pastels in the mix, you can be sure, they were accidents!

SWEATER QUANTITIES are available and if you order 3 or more skeins, they are dyed upon ordering to ensure that all skeins are similar.

YARN BASES I carry a variety of bases and you can find them detailed at https://stitchnoir.com/yarn-bases/

Outside of Etsy, you can find me in various other corners of the internet:

Returns and exchange details
I generally do not accept returns, but if there is a defect with an item, please get in touch and we will work together to solve the issue. Please remember when messaging me that I am a single individual who dyes yarn in her home "lab", not a large faceless business.

The following are not considered defects:
1) knots - although I do my best to avoid yarn with multiple knots, millers may at times supply me with skeins containing knots
2) a tangled skein - please use care when unwinding/rewinding skeins
3) slight light spots - sometimes in hand dyed yarn there are spots dyed slightly lighter, this is due to the inherent nature/the beauty of hand painted yarn and may occur
4) differences between skeins - no two hand dyed skeins will be exactly alike
5) cut yarn - please use care when opening packages as accidentally cut yarn is not considered a defect
