I custom ordered a shawl for a themed outfit, and StitchNoir delivered on all fronts. They were incredibly nice, accommodating, and really went the extra mile in terms of finding the right color/yarn. The product is wonderful on its own (I'm looking forward to just wearing it even without the outfit it was meant for!) but StitchNoir's incredible service and communication is what really made this experience for me. I would absolutely recommend them for custom orders.

About

Falling down the rabbit hole into the obsession that is fibre arts!

Stitch Noir came about as a response to a discovered passion for sewing, crochet and…well…fibre arts in general!

I have been addicted to various forms of fibre arts (mainly crochet & knitting) since 2011, not to mention I have been sewing for many years prior to that.

Growing up, I had many creative hobbies…writing, painting, drawing, scrapbooking…they were all interests…but then came sewing and the fibre arts!

First came the sewing obsession in 2003. I wanted garments that were a little edgy and out of the ordinary: corseted waists, grommeted shirts, long skirts covered in lace and ribbon, pants decorated with zippers and asymmetry!! The easiest way to have such items? Make them myself!

A talented friend who is also self-taught took the time to go over the basics. I began to see what I could do and how easy it was to alter an outfit and make unique one-of-a-kind items to suit my tastes. Add to that a sewing machine/serger Christmas present from my father in 2008 and you have the beginning of a wondrous relationship involving amazing fabrics and cool accessories and a grand imagination!

Next up, the crochet obsession which took hold in late fall 2011 and never let go! Thanks to Youtube and books...all the books! Has anyone else noticed how yarn is rabbit-like? You turn around and suddenly you have a dozen bins of the stuff!

I love patterns, but I also like altering patterns and adding a twist to my items. Skulls seem to be a common theme for my crochet.

During the summer of 2014 I finally discovered knitting. I jumped in feet first with cabling! I'm finally understanding it and it takes longer but allows for such fine gossamer fabric. So pretty!

It’s the crochet/knitting obsession that inspired me to start my side business Stitch Noir (www.stitchnoir.com). Once you have made a dozen shawls and accessories, you need to find homes for them all!

Presently, I'm also spinning with both a wheel and a drop spindle, as well as trying weaving on a homemade tri-loom!

So, what’s next? I have no idea. Nalbinding perhaps!

This love of creating things results in dozens of awesome pieces and there's no way I can keep them all! My home just doesn't have enough space, so Stitch Noir is my way to sharing my creativity with others :)

Most of my creations lean towards alternative, gothic, pagan....overall non-mainstream styles. I love trying to incorporate skulls into everything!

I also simply like trying new patterns and new ideas...always up for a challenge!

Greetings and welcome to my Etsy shop!

I admit up front, I am addicted...to all forms of fibre arts.

Stitch Noir is my way to make my funky alternative creations accessible to the masses!

My addiction takes many forms: crochet, knitting, sewing, even nalbinding when the mood strikes me!

This love of creating things results in dozens of awesome pieces and there's no way I can keep them all! I live in Toronto and it's rare to have a home with space, much less extra space to store all my pieces.

The only way to continue creating was to share my creations with others, and thus Stitch Noir was born.

My interests lean towards alternative, gothic, pagan....overall non-mainstream styles. If you haven't noticed, I also like trying to incorporate skulls in to various patterns. ;)

Please take some time and peruse my shop!
