The ribbon addiction started with card making and has resulted in hair clips......
"How does that happen?" You ask.
Well let me tell you:
I tried traditional scrapbooking, and didn't love how long it took, but found card making to be very rewarding. I loved all the pretty little stamps, paper, bling, brads, and of course an excuse to buy RIBBON, lots and lots of different colours of ribbon!
Then I had children, and found my creative time was very minimal, and working out of the house was not as much of an option. So, my search for a creative, money earning outlet began, and I turned to the things I had in my home: ribbon, needle and thread, felt, and loads of old denim.
A friend was organizing a children's rummage sale at my church and needed me to buy a table, I was not ready to sell all my baby clothes yet, but said I'd "whip up" something. And whip-up I did, a whole lot of hair clips. Using my ribbon, Cuttle Bug, and some dies, I made hair clips for 2 weeks straight. My very first hair clips were mostly Everyday ribbon clips and denim roses. I figured if I didn't sell them, my Sweet Pea would be overjoyed with an influx in the accessory department; but they sold! They sold so well that it got me thinking, "I could do this!" I could make hair clips at home. And selling online was not as scary as selling at a trade show. Enter Etsy.
I love my little shop here on Etsy, I love that here handmade and local is important. I buy as much as I can locally and ethically sourced, and purchase many of my supplies from Etsy. My denim is up-cycled from my 3 munchkins, my wool felt is from Holland and the USA. My crocheted items are made by my Mom (this is her shop if you'd like to visit:
http://www.etsy.com/shop/LazyBeeDesigns) I hand cut and sew each of my bows, cut out my wool felt and denim with my Cuttle Bug, or by hand. And I hand sew those tiny buttons and cute little beads - sometimes in my craft room, but mostly at the dinning room table. I take the photos, edit the photos, list the items, package and ship the items (on rare occasions Amazing Husband will mail them for me). All of this brings me joy, knowing my customers and their Little Pumpkins' feel beautiful wearing something I made. I absolutely love it when I get appreciation photos, or stories of how my hair accessories have completed an outfit for a special event, or when I see a stranger in the mall who's Little One is wearing a hair clip I have made. It makes me beam!
Since starting my shop I have braved a couple of trade shows, and sell my clips at 2 local consignment shops, but I still prefer the online marketplace.
I hope you like what you see here, and check back often!
