We all have a reason for starting a business. For many the motivation is money. For others it brings a sense of freedom and accomplishment and yet others have a need to share passions, knowledge and beliefs to the point that it becomes their life work.

I have found the latter to be what works for me.

In the summer of 2010 a series of tragedies seemed to lead me along a dark path that just seemed to get darker as the weeks and months went by. Life lost it's glow and I didn't know how to get it back

In 2011, making a bold move, we left our Northern Kentucky home and moved on the side of a Mountain in Rockcastle County, KY. I had high hopes that living in the heart of nature would add some light to my dark path. Each day on our new farm brought a sense of hope, spending more and more time in the woods, allowing nature to heal my heart and body. That's how the light gets in!

I spent hours everyday learning trees, plants, wild flowers, weeds and mushrooms. I studied their uses both culinary and medicinal and became fascinated with the food, spices and herbs that are right out my front door ( maybe yours too!). I gained the knowledge that nearly all pharmacology starts with the PLANTS! I started sharing my knowledge and occasionally lead foraging hikes so others could learn and benefit from this same knowledge. On a hot spring afternoon, sitting under a small waterfall, I felt as if I was on a quest to "Tame the Spirit". A Red Tailed Hawk was screaming near the top of the valley. "Tame the Spirit Herbs & Spices" was born!

Fast forward 5 years and we are now a full time herb business. "Tame the Spirit" sells herbs, spices, seeds, natural products from nature and will soon offer workshops and foraging hikes throughout Kentucky and Tennessee! We are on target to publish our first book in 2019! Our products are ALWAYS all natural, many wild harvested, or grown in the Appalachian Mountains by the " Tame the Spirit" team!
