About

Tanya Doody Ceramics

I have been producing pottery and ceramic sculpture since the mid-90's, when I was a student in ceramics at the New Brunswick College of Craft & Design (Fredericton, NB). I followed my passion and continued my ceramics education at Sheridan College (Oakville, ON) in their esteemed Crafts & Design Program.

I started my Etsy shop in 2007 but decided to take a break in 2008 to focus on other art projects, family, teaching, and my MFA degree (NSCAD 2012). I have since returned to designing ceramics and have my studio in Lethbridge, Alberta where I make small batch production runs of functional ceramics. I use clay produced locally in Medicine Hat, Alberta at Plainsman Clays.

DISTILL, 1360A Queen St E, Toronto, ON

I am an artist and craftsperson working in clay since 1994. I love what I do + hope that you do too! Inspired by: Mid-Century Modern design, 1980's design, color + pattern, and the gifts the ceramic material continually give.

Indoor or Outdoor Planters?

I usually make my hanging planters as indoor planters (with no drainage hole), but can make any made-to-order planter with a drainage hole in it if you wish. Just ask :)

See a design you like but wish it was a sitting planter? I can make any of my planters as traditional sitting planters, just specify this as a request as well as if you will need a drainage hole and matching drip tray when ordering.

Care instructions

All items: hand wash is always preferred for handmade ceramics, particularly items with gold or palladium luster. Microwave safe, with the exception of items with gold or palladium luster.

Planters: if there is no drainage hole, use as a cache pot, or place pebbles or styrofoam pieces in the bottom of the planter to assist with drainage if planting with soil directly.

Hanging Planters: use with plastic insert pot (as a cache pot), or plant directly (see above). It is important to keep soil level below hanging holes, and to not allow the the soil or water to contact the cord. Contact between the cord and soil or water may weaken the integrity of the cord.
