Calling all Adventure Dogs!
Show off your travels and hikes by snapping a patch onto your collar for each destination you visit! Our humans can cover their suitcases with souvenir patches and get their passports stamped, but what about us? A collection of dog tags can’t be worn on one collar at the same time. That’s where Detour Dog Collar Patches come in – collect as many as you want and mix-and-match them on your existing collar!
Unlike iron-on or sew-on patches, Detour Dog Collar Patches fasten to the collar with snaps, so they can be easily removed and rearranged.
The artwork on the patches are designed on Procreate by Maple the Welsh Springer Spaniel and her servant Claire from The Detour Effect. They are based on photographs that Claire took while traveling to these destinations. Each product page will show the original image that our digital drawings and patches are based on, and the relevant blog posts where they were first published. We do not use AI and spend many hours and days drawing each one by hand (and paw) with the photos as a reference. Occasionally public domain images are used to help supplement as a reference if the original image is not suitable for a small patch; when this is the case the additional sources are listed.
Dog Collar Patches work best on collars that are 1 inch wide and about 3 mm thick. Do not remove the paper backing. Treat the snap mechanism with care.
I do not pre-bend the patches because I want you to be able to form it around your exact collar. They start out stiff and it may take some massaging to fold it neatly around.
I do not sew the patches by hand, I only draw the artwork (and in most cases, I took the photographs that serve as references for the drawings). I send my artwork off to a manufacturer who produces the final patch. Then I punch the snaps in by hand and put together the packaging.
I am hesitant to post a side-by-side of my digital artwork file on each product page, as I don’t want my art to be stolen. You’ll notice I’ve stopped blogging recently due to the rampant plagiarism ushered in by AI. I might just post the art in my Instagram stories.
Apart from the patch manufacturer, we are a one-woman and one-dog operation and not every package will look identical to the last. Some of you may be lucky enough to find the extra special gift of a dog hair from Maple in your order, at no extra charge.
