Nature Captured In Silk

Born and raised in a rural Ontario community that borders on Algonquin Provincial Park, Laura has always enjoyed the vast lakes and forests around her. In 2005 she decided to take her art to the next level and start incorporating the very plants, leaves and seeds she often gathered during her nature walks and use them for heliographic printing. With the use of the sun's UV rays and otherwise perfect weather conditions she was able to capture the exact image of the botanicals into the silk fabric. Each piece of her work is created one at a time and can't be duplicated. Durability is also very important to Laura so she makes sure her hard work can be laundered and last for many years. The end result is a wearable, unique and one of a kind piece of art.

My art involves gathering the various plants/seeds and sun dyeing their images onto silk, rayon, cotton or any other natural fibre. Dye colours are custom mixed at the time of creation and I personally see the project through to the final stage.
