Our Story

Tiny Gems is a family and a shop. Owners Carolyn and Alan share a relentless passion for gemstones and minerals. They have been rock hunters for over 15 years, and their collection has gotten almost out of control! So why not open a shop?

Alan was born and raised in the Yukon Territory, in the far Canadian North. His father is a real bushman, and spent most of his time outside with his children. Alan has always had a keen interest in geology, and has a background in Mining Engineering.

Carolyn met Alan while living in the West Kootenay mountains in beautiful British Columbia, Canada. She has a background in Graphic Design and Visual Arts, and has been creating jewelry for over 20 years.

Now we want to share our knowledge and love of stones with you. Our collection features stones and crystals we have found ourselves, from across the planet. Some are specimens that we have just cleaned up, some have been made into wearable art.

Care instructions

Over time, any sterling silver jewelry piece exposed to air will tarnish. Sterling silver is 92.5% silver and 7.5% other metals. It’s the other metals, primarily copper, that cause sterling silver to tarnish.

The copper reacts to moisture and sulfur in the air, causing the tarnishing reaction. Silver tarnishes faster in areas with high humidity and air pollution. Chemicals like hairspray, perfume, deodorant, body lotion, bleach, etc., can speed up the tarnishing process.

Here are some tips on how to help: Don’t leave silver jewelry in the bathroom unprotected, and do not wear it the shower, swimming pool or hot tub. Humidity and moisture can make tarnish appear faster!
After taking off your silver jewelry, clean it with a dry soft clot

Does shipping include a tracking number?

The shipping cost provided is with Expedited Canada Post. There are currently country wide delays in shipping due to high volumes of online orders. Parcels may take longer to arrive than usual. * I am not responsible for lost or stolen parcels. Your parcel is shipped with insurance. I cannot refund for lost parcels, but Canada Post can. Please keep your tracking number in order to keep track of your parcel. Canada Post cannot guarantee your delivery date at this time due to Covid-19 social distancing protocols. If you need assistance, please go to the Canada Post website, or give them a call.

Returns and Exchanges

I take the time to verify every item before packaging it to ensure its perfect condition and I make the packaging carefully so your item will arrive safely without being damaged. I want you to be 100% satisfied with your purchase. However, sometimes during the shipping process some unexpected issues may happen.
If your package arrives damaged:
- Please take a picture of it BEFORE opening it.
- Once the package is open verify the condition of your item(s).
- If your item(s) are damaged, take another picture where we can see (as clearly and closely as possible) the damages. Please don't throw away the packaging as it may be required for inspection by my insurance company.
- Send me an email with those pictures within 3 days of receiving.

Lost parcel?

We are not responsible for lost parcels. ESPECIALLY FOR APARTMENTS OR SUITES! Please keep your tracking number provided and contact Canada Post with your information. This will help to track lost parcels. Please let your postal delivery person know you are expecting a package. If it is put in the wrong mailbox, there is nothing I can do. Please be patient, sometimes parcels take longer to arrive than letters.
